Opening Win For England
What a start to the year it’s been for Joe Root who’s managed over 8% of his total career runs in the last three matches alone. He’s dragged England to victory in all three of those matches and means they’ve now only lost one of their last 12 tests.
Virat Kohli tried his best to help India survive the final day of the first test, though Jimmy Anderson was on fire with the ball and if he can carry that kind of form over, England have every chance of taking a 2-0 lead in this four match series.
We’d expect the visitors to keep more or less the same XI, with Ben Stokes likely the only one to be drafted in as Jos Buttler returns home ahead of this match.
India To Beat England
The men in blue will have some tough decisions to make in what is a must win test back in Chennai, especially with a place at the World Test Championship Final up for grabs.
Shahbaz Nadeem has come under criticism for his inclusion and is likely to be the first casualty with competition for places rife in this squad, and Kuldeep Yadav is the likely replacement for him.
We wouldn’t expect too many changes though as one poor result doesn’t undo the good work the Indians did over in Australia, so we’d expect largely the same team to take the field.
Despite this being played on a different wicket to the first test, the conditions will be primarily the same, and we’d expect the pitch to deteriorate over the weekend.
Jack Leach and Dom Bess will be hoping to deliver with the ball yet again, though it’s easy to get carried away and forget just how good this India team can be.
That was England’s first win in India in the last six tests having lost four on the bounce prior to last weekend, and with Kohli showing signs he’s back on form, we’ll get behind the hosts to level the series.
