But a lack of strength in depth has hit them hard at times — and Sheringham senses a crucial transfer window ahead.

Former Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham does not think his old club will miss Paul Pogba when he departs this summer. The Frenchman’s contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of the current season and he appears set to leave on a free transfer for a second time, having already done so once as a teenager. Pogba is widely regarded as having failed to live up to expectations, following his record-breaking £89mlillion transfer from Juventus in 2016 – and Sheringham thinks a move elsewhere suits all parties.

Teddy Sheringham believes Harry Kane is more likely to win a trophy with Antonio Conte at Tottenham, than he would be if he left to join Erik ten Hag at Manchester United. Kane turns 29 in July but has yet to win any silverware at Spurs, despite scoring 247 goals in all competitions for the club. However, United are enduring a trophy drought of their own – not winning anything since lifting both the League Cup and Europa League in 2016-17. And Sheringham feels the presence of Conte as head coach at Tottenham gives Kane a good reason to turn down any approach from the Red Devils – should it arrive – regardless of how tempting their proposal may be.
