The current WBO Welterweight champion, Terrence “Bud” Crawford, is set for a bout to defend his title against the number two contender Shawn “Showtime” Porter who has held two welterweight titles before (IBF in 2013/14 & WBC 2018/19) but has never held the WBO belt. Bud Crawford has held the belt since 2018 and is looking to retain his title for the fifth time, which would make him the fourth person in WBO welterweight history to do so. Crawford fights out of the southpaw position and has an additional four and a half inches of reach on his opponent. Porter fights in the traditional orthodox stance and is an inch smaller than Crawford.
Over Showtime Porter’s career, he has fought only five southpaw fighters in his 35-bouts, the most recent of which was Errol Spence Jr. where he lost his WBC title on a split decision.
Given the rarity of southpaw fighters, Porter’s inexperience against these types of fighters may put him at a significant disadvantage. Crawford is also known to freely switch his stance between orthodox and southpaw which only adds more confusion for Porter.
Terrence Crawford remains undefeated going into this fight, standing at 37W-0D-0L. He has won 28 of those by knockout with the other nine fights having all been won by unanimous decision and comes into Saturday having won six successive bouts by KO or TKO.
In Bud Crawford’s fifteen fights that have been scheduled for 12 rounds he has gone the distance in just three of them giving him an average of 8.47 rounds per fight, so there’s a high chance he can end this before the judges have to get involved.
Crawford by KO/TKO or Disqualification
Despite Shawn Porter never being knocked out in his career and losing all of his fights by way of decision, we believe the best value is to be found in Crawford by KO/TKO or DQ because of the fact that he has 75% knockout rate and will take confidence from his record in his last six fights.
