Ibrox came good again for Rangers as a 2-0 deficit was overturned in Europe to reach the play-offs for the Champions League group stage, leaving a feel-good factor around the club.
They’ve won both their league games to date, though they haven’t blown anyone away yet and any optimism should be tinged with caution. St. Johnstone suffered a 1-0 defeat to Hibernian on the opening day, but they had been reduced to 10 men just before the hour mark and held out valiantly until the 90th minute. They’ve since backed that up with a 2-1 win away at Motherwell, though of course facing the Old Firm duo is a different challenge altogether.
The visitors last beat Rangers back in 2017, with the latter winning 10 of 14 encounters since. Five of six meetings since 2021 have featured fewer than three goals, as the fixture has struggled to ignite, and the manner in which the two clubs have started the season would suggest more of the same.

Kemar Roofe and Filip Helander are inching closer to fitness, but remain absent alongside Ianis Hagi. However, Alfredo Morelos made a goalscoring return from the bench against Kilmarnock in a welcome boost.
Callum Davidson has his own problems in the other dugout with full-backs Callum Booth and Tony Gallacher yet to return from injuries sustained last term, while striker Chris Kane and midfielder David Wotherspoon are both long-term absentees as well.

Rangers may have one eye on their upcoming clash with Eredivisie runners-up PSV, but whichever players van Bronckhorst picks, they should get the job done at Ibrox.
They are taking a while to break teams down however, and against an unadventurous team seeking to keep things tight, a fairly routine win should be achieved. Five of their past 12 home games have seen Rangers win 2-0, with the correct score appealing.
