Rangers v Ross County Preview - Scottish Premiership Week 5

Rangers will be looking to get back to winning ways when they welcome Ross County to Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership this weekend. Following a 2-2 draw with Hibs last time out, the hosts come into the game two points behind rivals Celtic, however they will be boosted by their midweek win over PSV, a result that sees them back in the Champions League group stages for the first time in 12-years. Rangers received a healthy boost midweek as they secured progression to the Champions League group stages for the first time since 2010, earning a hard-fought 1-0 win away to PSV.

They had to dig in defensively to get the result, but despite the short turnaround in fixtures, they shouldn’t be carrying tired legs this early in the campaign.

Rangers didn’t suffer too much in this aspect last term in any case, as they went W12-D6-L1 domestically following a midweek European fixture.

Antonio Colak Toi Score Anytime

Antonio Colak grabbed the only goal in the second leg with PSV, leaving the Croatian with five goals to his name this season already. In fact, last weekend’s visit to Hibernian is the only time he hasn’t scored across the Gers’ past six games, though he still registered an assist, and is sure to retain his place with Alfredo Morelos suspended after seeing red in the clash with Hibs.

Rangers were already down to 10 men before the Colombian received his marching orders, with John Lundstram having met the same fate earlier in the second half, as Rangers were leading 2-1 at the time. The eventual 2-2 draw is excusable then, but back at Ibrox, normal service should be resumed, especially with Lundstram seeing his red card rescinded.

Rangers To Win 2-0

Rangers are W35-D4-L1 in the league at home since 2020/21, including a W12-D1-L1 record since Giovanni van Bronckhorst took the reins, as only Celtic could get the better of them. 11 of those 12 victories under current management were accompanied by clean sheets, with five ending 2-0.

Both sides managed to score in all four meetings between Rangers and Ross County last term, with these clashes averaging 5.75 goals per game, as Ross County scored twice at a minimum on three occasions.

Rangers To Win To Nil

However, only one of these clashes have taken place since van Bronckhorst rocked up in Glasgow, resulting in a 4-1 win for the Gers. Moreover, Ross County have lost all 10 league trips to the Old Firm duo since 2019/20, trailing at the break on nine occasions, while they failed to score in eight of them. In addition, only St. Johnstone have had fewer shots per game than Ross County so far this season.

The Staggies did manage to earn a late victory over Kilmarnock last weekend, despite having been reduced to 10 men, but Killie have made a particularly poor start to the season and a trip to Rangers is a completely different prospect.
