Dundee United v Celtic Preview - Scottish Premiership Week 5

Celic will be looking to continue their winning start to the season when they take on Dundee United at Tannadice Park on Sunday. The defending champions made it four wins from four last weekend with a workmanlike 2-0 win over Hearts and with the Old Firm Derby looming next weekend, Ange Postecoglou will be expecting more of the same from his team this weekend. Recent Form

Dundee Utd began the season with a respectable draw away at Kilmarnock when down to 10 men and then secured a narrow victory over AZ Alkmaar in Europe, but they’ve since lost four on the bounce in devastating fashion. They conceded 15 times across those losses to Livingston, AZ, Hearts and St. Mirren, netting just a solitary consolation effort in return, as nothing other than a Celtic victory appears fathomable here.

The Hoops have enjoyed the perfect start, stringing together four consecutive victories, as well as plundering 12 goals and conceding just the once. All four wins saw them take the points by a minimum two-goal margin, while only Ross County were able to prevent the breakthrough until the second half.

The attack has even been bolstered this week with winger Sead Haksabanovic set to provide yet more competition, as the club have transformed their forward line under Ange Postecoglou. Jota, Kyogo Furuhashi, Daizen Maeda, Liel Abada and Gorgios Giakoumakis have all proven successful acquisitions to one degree or another, as the reigning champions look set to blow a number of teams away this season with sheer firepower.

Celtic To Win Both Halves

Of course, the visitor’s excellent form stretches back much farther than the start of the new campaign, as they’ve now won 30 of 36 unbeaten league games. 26 of those victories saw them lead at the break too, while they’ve won both halves in nine of the last 13. That includes three of four this term, with their opening goals coming in the 3rd, 48th, 7th and 13th minutes as they’re often at it early.

They’ve scored as many as six goals inside the last 20 minutes of matches this term as they’ve been relentless until the end, with their options off the bench able to turn the screw and desperate to impress with competition for starting spots crowded.

Dundee Utd have lost both halves in each of their last three outings now and new boss Jack Ross is already swimming against the tide. The manner of the insipid performance against St. Mirren last weekend will have worried him as much as the 3-0 result, whereas Celtic didn’t even have to get out of second gear to see off Hearts 2-0.
