Hibernian v Rangers Preview - Scottish Premiership Week 4

Hibernian and Rangers get the weekend's Scottish Premiership underway when they clash at Easter Road in the early Saturday kick-off. Giovanni van Bronckhorst men come into the game off the back of an impressive 4-0 win over St Johnstone and with rivals Celtic not playing until Sunday, victory will see them move to the top of the table. Recent Form

A 2-2 draw with PSV leaves Rangers’ European future in the balance, but Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men can be relatively pleased with their start to the season. They’ve already seen off Union Saint-Gilles over two legs and secured a trio of domestic victories, keeping pace with Celtic at the top of the standings.

After four consecutive outings at Ibrox, yielding wins over Kilmarnock, Union Saint-Gilles and St. Johnstone, as well as that stalemate with PSV, Rangers must now keep their form up on the road.

The signs are reasonably good though under Giovanni van Bronckhorst, with his side W10-D4-L1 away in the league since he took the job. However, Rangers have only led at the break in three of the last 10 of these, actually trailing at the break on six occasions, as second-half comebacks have often been required. Indeed, they’ve won the second half in each of their past six league trips, scoring twice after the break in four of these.

Slow starts have been a recurring theme for Rangers this season alone, with their 32-minute opener against St. Johnstone last weekend their only first-half strike yet in league action. In fact, even including their European fixtures, it’s the earliest they’ve scored in any appearance to date.

Hibernian may have lost the first half 1-0 in two of their three games to date under new manager Lee Johnson, drawing 0-0 in the other, but they ended last season with a W1-D13-L1 half-time record across their final 15 games.

Rangers To Win The 2nd Half

Hibernian have been level at the break with Rangers in each of their last three meetings at Easter Road, while they also led 3-1 at Hampden Park in the League Cup last term. In fact, either at home or on neutral territory at Hampden Park, Hibs are W1-D7-L1 at the break against the Old Firm duo since 2020/21, with six of these goalless at that stage.

Certainly, Hibs will attempt to frustrate Rangers, and with 12 of their last 14 home league games seeing fewer than three goals, including eight of the past nine, they appear relatively well-equipped to do so.

Four of their last five home clashes with either Rangers or Celtic have been the same, though Rangers have consistently delivered in the second half and should be trusted to here as well.

Antonio Colak To Score Anytime

One man that could break the deadlock is Antonio Colak, who has alleviated concerns over how Rangers can cope in the absence of Alfredo Morelos. The Colombian is available again but still lacking in match fitness, so Colak, who has netted in each of Rangers’ past four games, should keep his shirt.
