Uysk v Joshua 2 Preview

The second edition of the Joshua v Uysk fight will get under way this weekend at the Jeddah Superdrome in Saudi Arabia. The first bout was held at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium which gave a big advantage to Joshua which he failed to take advantage after he lost via unanimous decision (UD), having been thoroughly outclassed by his Ukrainian counter-part.

Both fighters last bout was against one another in October of last year which means that this will be Uysk’s first title defence and Joshua’s second chance to get the four titles back after losing them to Andy Ruiz first time round. Check out our preview to the "Rage On The Red Sea" and what should be another blockbuster encounter.

Joshua Record

Anthony Joshua’s record stands at a modest W24-L2 with 22 of his wins being knock outs which means that 85% of his fights have ended that way. The only time he received a knockout blow was against Andy Ruiz when the Mexican shocked the world in the seventh round.

His two wins via UD have come in his last six fights, which says to us that he has learned to approach bouts in a different way, rather than just trying to knock his opponent out.

His second fight against Ruiz is a perfect example of this when he controlled the fight by using his superior height and reach.

Uysk Record

Oleksandr Uysk is undefeated in his 19-bout career with 13 of those being knockouts (68%), one would always assume that the world heavyweight number one would be a knockout machine but he has had numerous fights go the distance, including his last fight with Joshua when he won the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO and IBO titles.

Whilst Uysk falls short in every physical category against Joshua (height, reach and general strength) he makes up for it in his lightning quick speed and skill.

He has a chin that is formidable and is able to pick the right time to strike his opponent. His signature southpaw jab is something which has caused difficulty for every fighter he has faced.

Uysk To Win By TD Or UD

This fight has been hailed as the Size v Speed fight and in theory Joshua should have a good chance of winning if he goes into the fight with same mentality and game plan as he did in the second Ruiz fight.

Uysk will however know this will be his gameplan and will aim to get in his face to nullify the reach advantage that Joshua has. Uysk has won four of his last six fights via UD or TD including the last one against Joshua, and that looks to be where the value is again on this occasion.

UYSK TO WIN BY TECHINICAL OR UNANIMOUS DECISION
