Everton v Liverpool Preview And Predictions - Premier League Week 14

Goodison Park takes center stage on Wednesday night in the Premier League when Everton welcome Liverpool in the Merseyside Derby. Rafa Benitez will be feeling the pressure after a run of seven league games without a win and with Liverpool in a great run of form, it could be another tough night in the office for the hosts. Check out our preview and predictions for the game, and exclusive comments from former Liverpool midfielder Paul Ince which you can read below.

Recent Form

Liverpool have now scored four goals in two consecutive Premier League games following a 4-0 win versus Southampton at the weekend.

That leaves them as the highest scorers in the league this year with 39, averaging exactly three goals per game. When Manchester City broke the record for most goals scored in a season, in the 2017/18 season, they scored 106, leaving them with an average of 2.79.

Everton are on the other side of the spectrum when it comes to form, they haven’t managed a win in the last seven games and only gained two points in the process.

Everton’s long list of injuries and lack of discipline has been a big issue this season. Rafael Benitez is the favourite for the next manager to leave his post, which doesn’t come as a surprise given their lack of results of late.

However, it’s hard to judge a manager and team when all of their best players are constantly missing games through injury or suspension.

Over 3.5 Goals

The two teams head-to-head results fall heavily in Liverpool’s favour with a record of W4-D5-L1, with the most recent game seeing Everton get their first league win over Liverpool since the end of 2010.

Although Liverpool certainly have a better record than the Merseyside rivals, a draw seems to be a very regular outcome when these two teams play. Since Everton’s last win in 2010, there have been 25 games between the two and 12 of them have resulted in a draw.

Furthermore, when these games took place at Goodison Park, Everton managed to get a draw eight out of the possible 12 times, leaving them with a 66% draw rate when at home in this derby.

Yerry Mina is still doubtful for a return in this game, meaning he has missed the last six for the Toffee’s. This will be a huge blow considering that the Columbian powerhouse is statistically

Everton’s most important player. The Blue’s see an increase of 93.75% in points per game since the start of last season when the Colombian starts, while he also has the highest win rate out of any Evertonian at 54%.

Liverpool will go for the jugular as soon as the first ball is kicked on Wednesday, they love to put pressure on the opposition defenders as soon as possible to make them feel disorganised and uncomfortable.

We’ve seen this in many games this season and is a big part of the reason why Liverpool score so many goals. They have an average of 3.85 match goals this year, with over 3.5 goals landing in all of their last eight clashes.

PREDICTION:

OVER 3.5 GOALS
