Chelsea v Malmo Preview And Predictions - Champions League Group Stage Three

Chelsea look to get back to winning ways in Group H of the Champions League when they welcome Malmo to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night. A 1-0 loss to Juventus last time out sees them trailing the Turin giants by three points and Thomas Tuchel will be demanding all three points against the Swedes who have yet to register a point from their first two games. Recent Form

Malmo last reached the Champions League group stages in 2015/16, though did make the Europa League group stages in both 2018/19 and 2019/20.

That 2015/16 campaign saw them lose five of six games as aside from a 1-0 win hosting Shakhtar Donetsk, they failed to score a single goal and conceded 21 times.

Up against the only elite sides they’ve faced in Europe since 2014/15 (Juventus, Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and PSG), Malmo have lost all 11 games and scored just a solitary goal.

They also lost by a minimum two-goal margin in all but one of these, and by at least three clear goals in four of the most recent five.

That includes the most recent encounter with Chelsea at this stadium as they went down 3-0 in their second-leg clash during the knockout rounds of the 2018/19 Europa League.

Chelsea To Win 3-0

This time around the Swedish outfit navigated the qualifying rounds to reach the group stages fairly smoothly, recording five wins from eight games and losing just the once, including a pair of victories over Scottish champions Rangers.

However, the main even has been a disaster so far as following a 3-0 defeat hosting Juventus, they then went down 4-0 away to Zenit, albeit receiving a red card at 2-0 down shortly after the break.

Chelsea’s prospects of registering a clean sheet here appears strong and especially after a resilient display at the weekend away to Brentford, despite not being at their absolute best.

The Blues shut out Zenit for a narrow 1-0 triumph in their opening group game, before losing by the same scoreline away to Juventus, with Massimiliano Allegri’s side putting on a defensive masterclass to seal the points.

Chelsea To Win To Nil

Although Antonio Rudiger is set to miss out owing to a back issue, Thiago Silva may return to the line-up after missing the weekend action, while Malang Sarr could receive another opportunity after impressing against Brentford.

However, a strong team is expected to feature with Christian Pulisic the only other confirmed absentee and Hakim Ziyech also likely to miss out.

Chelsea are W10-D3-L1 in this competition since the start of last season, winning without conceding in six of eight such matches under Thomas Tuchel as the exceptions came in knockout ties with Real Madrid and Porto.

They currently lead the Premier League standings and should have little trouble overcoming their limited opponents

PREDICTION:

CHELSEA TO WIN 3-0

CHELSEA TO WIN TO NIL
