Brentford v Brighton Preview – Premier League Week 11

Brentford and Brighton kick-off week 11 of the Premier League when they clash at the Gtech Community Stadium on Friday night. Both sides will be looking to get back to winning ways following losses last week, and with the same home and away records this season, expect a tight one here. Recent Form

After a promising start to the season, where Brentford went W2-D3-L1, the Bee’s form has taken a major U-turn and have now only scored one goal in their last three matches and conceded eight in the process (five to Newcastle and three to Arsenal).

A hattrick against Leeds before the International break for Ivan Toney gave him his first England call-up, but since then he has only managed one goal which was a spot kick against the Magpies.

Brighton were handed their second loss of the year after falling short against Tottenham at the Amex. A goal from Harry Kane was enough to split the two sides but there are lots of positives for new manager Roberto de Zerbi to take from that match.

There is also some bad news in the Brighton camp as Zambian midfielder Enock Mwepu has been forced to retire after the medical team found that he has a hereditary heart condition.

Last Meeting

When these two played each other last year, either game wasn’t a thriller by any sense of imagination. Brighton won both matches-to-nil (2-0 A, 1-0 H) in true Graham Potter fashion. We think that the head-to-head shouldn’t really be paid much attention to, as a lot has changed in the Brighton camp and Brentford have by and large been impressive this year, although their latest run of form is a cause for concern.

De Zerbi has been impressive in his first few Premier League games as it’s a hard ask to have your first two outings against Liverpool and Tottenham. He walked away with a point against Liverpool and only lost by one goal to Spurs is an achievement in itself for a manager new to the league.

Same Home And Away Records

Both teams have the same home and away record of W2-D1-L1 with Brentford’s home loss coming against Arsenal and Brighton’s away at Fulham. Brentford really need to start winning more at home and will hope that Toney can get going again because he is pivotal to their success.

Since the start of last season, when Toney doesn’t play Brentford’s points per game goes down by 32% (1.22 à 0.83). It’s hard to gauge value on the major markets with how inconsistent the hosts have been, while Brighton are still adjusting to new management.

Hickey To Be Carded

Aaron Hickey has been a good addition for Brentford but his discipline needs to be corrected, he has already received four yellows this season which have all come in the last six games.

He has played virtually all his games at RB or RWB and that means he will be up against Leandro Trossard and Solly March who are amongst the most fouled players in the Premier League with Trossard being fouled seven times in the last five games and March 11 times already this season.
