Verstappen Dominates In Bahrain

Max Verstappen dominated the 2023 Formula 1 opener in Bahrain and helped Red Bull further stake their claim in motorsport even further. The 25-year-old is inflicting even more pain on Ferrari and Mercedes, finishing 10 seconds in front of his teammate Sergio Perez and winning the Bahrain GP for the first time in his career.

Charles Leclerc was forced to exit the race after suffering from mechanical difficulties, whilst Lewis Hamilton could only settle for fifth. Faced with his toughest opponents, Verstappen displayed a level of calmness and experience well-beyond his years and the Dutchman’s handling and overall performance were simply world-class. When the Dutchman is in this kind of form, it seems inevitable that he’ll romp to a third F1 title and write his name into the history books with even more detail. Second-placed Perez impressed, too, but he could only watch as his Red Bull teammate cruised to victory in style.

Red Bull Dominance Grows Further

Red Bull’s fingerprints were all over this race considering who the top-two racers were, and the Bahrain GP was just the latest installment in the brand’s high vantage point over the landscape of Formula One.

Lewis Hamilton has, so far, been unable to improve upon a dismal 2022, whilst Charles Leclerc constantly finds himself looking at Verstappen’s rear tyres. As impressive as the Dutchman is, the Bahrain GP was devoid of drama from the get-go, as a Verstappen victory looked entirely elementary.

Alonso Back In Business

Excitement for the new season is certainly still high, and the return of Fernando Alonso to the podium was pleasant to see, but it’s becoming more and more clear that this is the Max Verstappen show, and the rest of the competition are mere spectators.

It had been two long years since Alonso’s last podium finish and the Spaniard is quickly reminding us all that he’s not quite past his best yet. He could present the biggest threat to Verstappen this season - meaning that the upcoming Formula One campaign really will be a battle between the old sage and the young master.

Same Old Problems For Ferrari

Charles Leclerc’s early dismissal from the race sums up everything about Ferrari’s rotten luck right now. The Monacan got off to a good start and was sitting pretty in P3 before his car experienced difficulty, ending his chances right there and then.

It seems that Ferrari can’t catch a break right now, and the same can be said for Mercedes, who endured ‘one of the worst days in racing’ as Toto Wolff stated, before adding that Red Bull had ‘set the benchmark’.

The painful reality for Mercedes is that they are being overtaken by the competition and need to find a plan B to avoid falling behind any further.

It was business as usual for Red Bull at the Bahrain Grand Prix, and it’s going to take a massive overhaul for their dominance to even be tested by the rest.
