Wolves v Chelsea Preview And Predictions - Premier League Week 18

Wolves will be eyeing up a second consecutive league win when they welcome Chelsea in the first of three Premier League games on Sunday. Following consecutive losses Wolves bounced back midweek with a hard fought 1-0 win over Brighton and victory will see them move to within two points of a top four place. Chelsea on the other hand have lost momentum over the last few weeks dropping six points from their last five games, a run of results that have seen them drop down into third place four points off Man City. Recent Form

Wolves just managed to clinch a win in their mid-week fixture versus Brighton, with the end result being 1-0, making it the eighth time already this season that one of their games has ended 1-0 to one side or the other.

It’s not all smooth sailing for Bruno Lage, with Wolves having a bit of an issue this season with putting the ball in the back of the net, as they’ve only scored 13 goals so far and two across their last seven games.

Chelsea couldn’t muster a win over an out-of-form Everton, losing ground in the title race as their rivals won their midweek fixtures. The Blues are now three points behind Liverpool and four adrift of Manchester City, with neither team looking to slow down anytime soon.

Chelsea have a few players out with injuries and positive covid tests; Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner and Matteo Kovacic just to name a few.

This match against Chelsea will be a real test for Wolves because of the similarities in their style of play. They both play virtually the same formation with three centre-backs and two attacking wing-backs, as well as double pivot in midfield.

The attack is the only thing that varies, with Chelsea normally fielding two attacking midfielders and a striker, whereas Wolves like to play with wingers and a striker.

Neither team concedes many goals, with Wolves only shipping 14 this season and Chelsea 12, while they stand fourth and second respectively in the goals against table.

Chelsea To Win To Nil Or 1-0

These two teams have played each other six times since the Wanderers got promoted up to the Premier League in the 2018/19 season, and surprisingly it’s also level pegging with both teams holding a record of W2-D2-L2.

Both of Wolves’ two victories came at Molineux, though all three encounters at Stamford Bridge were low scoring affairs as they each featured fewer than three goals.

Both teams did still manage to score on four out of the six games as there was an average of 2.83 match goals, but a 5-2 win for Chelsea at Molineux accounted for nearly 40% of the output across the six games.

Before the 18/19 season, Chelsea had beaten Wolves in ten out of their 11 times of asking going back to 1994.

Every single game that Wolves have played against opponents currently within the top nine has finished with a 1-0 scoreline, though sadly for Wolves fans, only one of them went in their favour.

That means that the goal scored against West Ham remains their only strike against the best teams in the league.

PREDICTION:

CHELSEA TO WIN TO NIL OR 1-0
