Spurs Not Ready To Win The League
Speaking exclusively to Genting, he said: “I know that Tottenham are not ready to win the Premier League yet, that is for sure.
“I said that Tottenham will finish in front of Arsenal because I think they are more disciplined. They can close games out and they have the perfect coach in Antonio Conte to play a style of football that is results-driven. Against all the big clubs, I expect Tottenham to be hard to beat this season and to take points.
“This is the Italian style. They’ve been pragmatic, not performing brilliantly but they have been picking up points. I think that Tottenham have started the season very well.
“Against Chelsea, they showed great character to come back and take a point from that game. To keep going and to have the belief and desire to score so late in the game, that is a good sign. Six matches in and they are unbeaten.
“They are strong. They are a compact team. I don’t think they have the best squad in the league, but they do have some outstanding players. I think Conte has raised the players’ levels and deserves a lot of credit for that.
“It will be very difficult for any of the big clubs to beat Tottenham this season, because of the way that Conte plays.
“This is how Conte wants his team to play: well organised, difficult to beat, deadly up top. They may not play the nicest football, but it is effective. They are looking good and will only improve.”
Marseille Could Spring A Surprise
Tottenham’s fourth-place league finish in 2021-22 sees them return to the Champions League and Frenchman Gallas has warned Spurs to be wary of another of his former clubs in Marseille, who have been drawn in their group.
“I think Marseille can create a few surprises for Tottenham,” he said. “They will be ready for this match.
“They have a new coach [Igor Tudor] at the club. It was difficult for the players to come to terms with his methods, particularly the intensity of training, but they are starting to understand him and have had some fantastic results so far. They are level on points with PSG at the top of the French League.
“The players are now doing everything that the coach wants from them. They are playing with a lot of intensity, so Tottenham will have to be careful of them.
“Normally, you would expect Tottenham to win this match because they have more experience in the Champions League - a lot of these Marseille players are performing for the first time in the competition - but they must be wary of the intensity that Marseille will bring.
“This is a team that is not scared to play very high. They have players that will press everywhere.
“[Alexis] Sanchez, of course, used to play for Arsenal, along with a few others like [Matteo] Guendouzi and you have [Nuno] Tavares who is there on loan from Arsenal. [Dimitri] Payet played for West Ham, so there are players in this team that Tottenham will know.
“I am sure that Sanchez will have been talking to his teammates about Tottenham and he will want to score at their stadium. He is a player that can cause many problems for Tottenham's defence.”
