William Gallas Exclusive: Ronaldo Will Leave After World Cup

William Gallas says he thinks Cristiano Ronaldo will leave Manchester United after the World Cup - and “wouldn’t be surprised” if the forward ended up at Chelsea. Ronaldo has been in and out of the side for United this season, starting all six Europa League games but playing only 520 minutes of Premier League football - a mere 41% of the total possible. The 37-year-old recently gave an interview voicing his displeasure, particularly with the Red Devils’ new manager, Erik ten Hag, as well as the club’s hierarchy. Gallas feels the Dutch head coach has not respected Ronaldo and suggests the veteran forward could swap Old Trafford for Stamford Bridge, with the Blues reportedly interested in the Portugal captain last summer.

Ronaldo To Chelsea

Speaking exclusively to Genting, he said: “I think that Cristiano Ronaldo will leave Manchester United after the World Cup.

“I wouldn’t be surprised to see him go to Chelsea either.

“He was honest and spoke from the heart [in his interview] and I think everybody is a little bit surprised by what has happened to him at United this season.

“The only people who know what was said about his role and importance in the team are him [Ronaldo] and the manager.

“When you look at what Ten Hag did to him, putting him on the bench, for a player of Ronaldo’s standing, it’s difficult to understand, but he accepted it.

“When Ten Hag is asking a player like Ronaldo to come off the bench for the last two or three minutes, he is showing him a lack of respect. It would be better to give those minutes to some younger players. Ten Hag has to respect what Ronaldo has done throughout his career.

“This is a situation that is really difficult for everyone involved. Nobody knows what was said between Ronaldo and Ten Hag.”

Ten Hag Lacks Experience

Gallas feels Ten Hag’s lack of experience as a top-level player is the cause of his treatment of Ronaldo.

“Ten Hag never played at the top level as a player, so he doesn’t understand how Ronaldo is feeling,” Gallas added.

“Carlo Ancelotti would never do something like this with one of his older players because he understands how Ronaldo is feeling and what he is thinking as a player in this situation because he would have experienced it himself.”
