William Gallas Exclusive: Mbappe Will Find A Way To Beat Walker

Former France international William Gallas is convinced that Kylian Mbappe will find a way to outperform Kyle Walker in Les Bleus’ World Cup quarter-final clash with England. The pair last faced each other in the group stages of the Champions League in 2021-22, with Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain winning one game apiece. And Gallas feels that - even if Walker is able to keep Mbappe quiet for the majority of the game - the Parisian forward has the quality to hurt the Three Lions if he is given even one opportunity.

Mbappe To Find Solution

Speaking exclusively to Genting, he said: “Kylian Mbappe is a clever boy and he's faced Kyle Walker before and I think he'll find the solution to win that battle.

“For the first 85 minutes, Kyle Walker could be on top in the battle but maybe in the last five minutes, Kylian can score the winner at any time and everyone will say he won the battle.

“As I said, Mbappe is a clever boy so I'm sure he'll find the solution to beat Kyle Walker.”

French Quality

Gallas insists that France’s hopes do not lie solely with the 23-year-old, however, and hailed the quality of Les Bleus’ team as a whole - even claiming that he would not include any England players in a combined line-up.

“Everyone is talking about Kylian Mbappe, but France has so many good players around him too; Adrien Rabiot, Antoine Griezmann; Ousmane Dembele - one of the strongest players,” he added.

“It's never easy against [Dembele] because he's very quick and he will do a lot of damage to England's defence.

“I'm sure Kylian will score but if he doesn't then one of the other players will score the winner.

“I would only take France's starting XI because, although England has some quality players, especially in midfield, France has Adrien Rabiot so it wouldn't be good if I chose any England players in my team.

“Hugo Lloris is better than Jordan Pickford. He has more experience and he's played at the highest level for a long time.

“Pickford is a good player, but he hasn't played for a big club yet. I'm talking about the top five teams in the league and Everton isn't near that.”

France Test A Marker For England

Gallas also went on to suggest that England’s strong showings so far have been due to a lack of quality opponents, claiming the upcoming clash with France will be a good marker of the Three Lions’ progress as a side.

“England haven't played against top-class players yet or the better national teams,” he said.

“France will be a good test for England to see which level they're actually at.

“Obviously they got to the Euro 2020 final, but this is the World Cup. The level is higher and you have to win.

“There's more pressure and France know that they have the experience, whereas England don't.

“It will be good for England to play against the best nation.”
