A change in the dugout has done West Ham no favours and they’ve now lost six of their last eight winless matches across all competitions.
However, they gave Liverpool a scare on Monday with Lukasz Fabianski uncharacteristically sloppy, meaning two of those eight defeats came against the Reds, while a further two were supplied by Man City and Leicester.
Having drawn at home to bottom-half outfits Everton and Brighton during this time, the Hammers shouldn’t be totally disregarded.
Southampton To Win And Both Teams To Score
Southampton have lost three of their last four in all competitions coming into this one, though in fairness these came against Liverpool, Spurs and a Burnley side in good form at present.
The most recent outing delivered a win at home over Aston Villa, who sit just one point and one place above David Moyes’ side, meaning they’ve now won five of seven clashes with the current bottom six in the table this term.
The Saints have actually won four of their past five road trips in the league, including wins over Leicester and Chelsea, and goals most definitely haven’t been a problem for them on their travels.
Since drawing a blank on the opening day of the season at Burnley, Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men have found the net in all but one of their subsequent 12 away days, netting nine times in the last five as a trip to Anfield at the beginning of the month proved the exception.
The Hammers have now conceded at least twice in six of their past eight at home, with even Brighton and Newcastle netting three times each, so we certainly fancy the visitors’ chances going forwards.
However, the London-based club have also scored in all but two of their 13 home games this season, misfiring against Liverpool and Man City, as five of their last six defeats here have seen them find the net.
Southampton To Beat West Ham 2-1
Although the Saints have hardly been goal-shy, they’re not accustomed to ripping teams apart either and they’ve only once chalked up more than two goals from their 27 matches to date.
They’ve scored exactly twice in six of their last eight victories, with three of these finishing 2-1, as they averaged exactly two per game across these victories.
If the Hammers are to net in defeat, it’s unlikely that Southampton will find the firepower to do it with a great number of goals and the correct score is well worth a punt.
