Tottenham v Newcastle Preview And Predictions - Premier League Week 31

Tottenham continue their bid for a top-four finish in the Premier League when they welcome Newcastle in the late Sunday kick-off. With four wins from their last five, Spurs are right back in the race for Champions League football and could move ahead of their North London rivals Arsenal who don't play until Monday night. Recent Form

Tottenham have had a rollercoaster patch of form since the start of January, recording seven wins and five losses during this period. They’ve had a tendency to not show up for the smaller games (1-0 L v Burnley, 3-2 L v Southampton, 2-0 L v Wolves) but when a big occasion comes around, they seem to pull it out the bag.

Most notably, a 3-2 win over Manchester City means that they’ll finish the Premier League being the only team to have a perfect record against the reigning champions.

After only winning one match through the first 20 games of the season, everyone was sure that Newcastle were set for relegation, but they’ve turned it around with six wins from their last nine fixtures.

This massive uptick in form has meant that they are no longer in the relegation zone and look highly unlikely to be one of the three relegated teams if they can carry on playing with this passion.

Under 2.5 Goals

The head-to-head aspect of this matchup is heavily dominated by the team from North London, posing a record of W6-D2-L1 since the start of the 2017/18 season.

The only win for Newcastle came at the new Tottenham stadium, which was settled by a Joelinton goal in the 27th minute, as the Magpies won that game 1-0 despite only controlling 19% possession of the ball.

Five out of these nine games have finished with BTTS markets coming off and the other four were all won-to-nil (3 for Spurs and 1 for Newcastle).

When Newcastle play on the road, they seem to be able to shut up shop better than what we were used to seeing in previous Newcastle teams.

In their away games this year the Magpies have seen -2.5 goals markets come off 66% of the time and eight out of their last 11 games (home and away) have seen the same outcome.

The one issue with this is that Tottenham have had over 2.5 goals in seven out of their 16 games against teams in the bottom half of the table, while they’ve also seen this same market come off in 71% of their home games.

There is a caveat in that the last four games played between these two teams, at the Tottenham Stadium, have finished with -2.5 goals (1-0 x3, 1-1).

PREDICTION:

UNDER 2.5 GOALS
