Recent Form

Sporting have lost a potential seven points in the last six league games, which on paper doesn’t sound like much but considering they only dropped four points in the 16 matches prior it has meant that they are now six points behind FC Porto who still boast an extremely strong record of W19-D3-L0, but Sporting do have bragging rights over their league rivals who failed to qualify for the next stage of the Champions League and will have to settle for the Europa League.

Manchester City’s winning run in the Premier League (PL) was put to bed two weeks ago by Southampton in a 1-1 draw. That doesn’t seem to have knocked them back as much as their league challengers Liverpool may have hoped as since that draw, City have played two and won them both, albeit against relatively poor teams in Brentford and Norwich, winning both to nil. Pep Guardiola’s men will be looking to carry on their winning ways as they edge closer to the elusive Champions League trophy.

The Citizens have only played once in Portugal over the last ten years and the result was a 0-0 draw with FC Porto, so considering there isn’t much information when City play in Portugal we will have to look elsewhere to find an accurate representation of what may happen on Tuesday night.

Man City To Win And Both Teams To Score

Sporting have yet to draw a blank in a league game this year and the only time they failed to score this season was in a 1-0 defeat to Dortmund during the Champions League group stage.

Despite their ability to score at least one goal and considering the dominance they show in their domestic league, Sporting Lisbon have only scored four goals on three occasions this year (excluding domestic cups).

Two of these occasions were against Besiktas in the Champions League and one league game against Beleneses who are bottom of the Primeira Liga.

FC Porto, who are the best team in the Primeira League, are the closest teams in-terms of quality compared to Man City that Sporting face on the domestic front, but are obviously a long way off, and they drew on the two occasions they have met each other this season.

This may be an indication that a draw is on the cards, but it is hard to see past City getting a result considering the bookies are pricing them as heavy odds-on favourites to win the game.

PREDICTION:

MAN CITY TO WIN AND BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
