Real Madrid v Barcelona Preview And Betting Tips – El Clasico

Real Madrid’s shock league loss to Levante and midweek loss in the Champions League to Man City is hardly the sort of preparation Zinedine Zidane would have wanted coming into world football’s biggest club clash on Sunday at the Santiago Bernabeu. After sitting top of the standings for most of the season the hosts find themselves two-points behind their bitter rivals Barcelona who come into the game off the back of four consecutive league wins. Spanish football expert and Genting Casino ambassador Guillem Balague gives his verdict ahead of the game which you can watch below, while tipsters Form Labs guide you to where the value might lie with their betting preview and tips.

Recent Form

Having dominated the proceedings for the opening 78 minutes before Gabriel Jesus struck for Man City, Dani Carvajal then put in a reckless challenge on Raheem Sterling five minutes later to gift the visitors their second goal.

It then went from bad to worse for Zidane’s men as Sergio Ramos was given his marching orders four minutes from time, meaning he’ll miss the second leg.

Meanwhile, Barcelona had a difficult Last 16 clash of their own as they had to rely on an Antoine Griezmann 57th-minute equaliser to earn them a vital away goal, but they’ll be confident of their chances to reach the quarters now back at the Camp Nou.

Plenty At Stake For Both Teams

This is the 243rd competitive El Clasico tie and the Catalan giants lead the way with 96 wins to Real Madrid’s 95, and with the two currently separated by just two points at the head of La Liga, it looks set to be a gruelling encounter.

For the last couple of seasons this fixture has had less on the line with Los Blancos falling by the wayside further down the table, but we’re finally seeing both these two sides neck and neck in a title race once again.

The visitors have adapted well under their new manager Quique Setien as they’ve won five of their six league fixtures, reverting back to their roots and the so called ‘tiki-taka’ style that has brought them so much success down the years.

However, that impressive run saw them play four times at Camp Nou, as their two fixtures on the road saw them edge past 13th-placed Real Betis and lose 2-0 at Valencia.

In fact, they’re now just W2-D3-L2 on the road across all competitions since mid-December, with their only other victory coming against Segunda B side Ibiza in the Copa del Rey.

Real’s Rough Patch

Zizou’s charges find themselves in a bit of a rough patch having won just one of five matches across all tournaments in February.

The three defeats came against Real Sociedad in the cup, a trip to Levante and last time out against Pep Guardiola’s men. The latter should’ve seen them come up trumps and it’s certainly a record that looks worse on paper than the actual reality of it.

In fact, they’ve won eight of 12 unbeaten league matches at Bernabeu this term, including victories over third and fourth-placed Atletico Madrid and Sevilla across their last three such fixtures and they’ll be raring to go.

Real Madrid And Barcelona To Draw

Barcelona will know that a win this weekend will likely see them lift the title as it would place them six points clear of Real Madrid, as well as holding the head-to-head advantage, so there is a lot more on the line for the hosts.

Defeats for Los Blancos in all four league visits from Barca since 2015/16 isn’t a great record, but considering the current injury crisis the visitors have up front as well as Madrid’s slightly faltering form of late, a repeat of their stalemate earlier this campaign looks to be on the cards.
