Newcastle are not too far from being realistically safe following victory away at Southampton last weekend. However, with some tough fixtures in the run-in where they face Man City in the FA Cup and league and host Spurs and Liverpool in May, they’ll be looking to land some points before facing those ‘Big Six’ sides to get the job done.
Sheffield Utd have actually moved above Spurs and so this will be no easy fixture for the Magpies, with the Blades now unbeaten in six across all competitions as they’ve won three of four Premier League outings.
Away from Bramall Lane they’re W4-D7-L2 this season, as the defeats were inflicted by Man City and Liverpool, while against bottom-half sides alone they’ve won four of seven unbeaten matches.
All but one of those seven fixtures saw a maximum of two goals and Sheffield Utd’s have in fact averaged the lowest number per game this season compared to any other team.
Newcastle are third on that list and given four of their last five have seen fewer than two goals, as their winner at Southampton was the only strike Steve Bruce’s side mustered over this spell, ‘Unders’ is unsurprisingly at short odds.

However, with at least one team failing to score in each of those past five games, as well as in Newcastle’s past four home games, that route looks more profitable.
Indeed, the five teams with the lowest-scoring matches on average this season also include Palace, Watford and Brighton, and four of Newcastle’s five clashes with this group have seen one team fail to score as all of them saw fewer than three goals.
Meanwhile, Sheffield United have also seen a maximum of two goals in all six meetings against this cluster, with just two goals across three road trips as they won 1-0 twice and had a 0-0 draw in the other.

Fortunately for the Magpies, they’re not often beaten at St. James’ Park with a W5-D6-L3 record there this term, as only Leicester were able to triumph by more than one goal.
Another bore draw could unfold here with Burnley and Norwich coming away 0-0 in the last two at this venue, and in fact Newcastle have been level at the break in 11 of 14 matches here this term, with five of their last seven still goalless at half-time.
Sheffield Utd have only managed three first half goals on their travels this season, so we doubt there’ll be much action during the opening 45.
