Manchester United v Brentford Preview And Predictions - Premier League Week 35

Manchester United and Brentford bring the curtain down on the weekend's Premier League action when they clash in the Monday night game. With two losses and a draw from their last three games United seem to be out of the running for a Champions League spot, however with just three games to go they will want to finish the season on a high. Recent Form

Cristiano Ronaldo’s 17th league goal of the campaign saw Man Utd claim an undeserved point hosting Chelsea on Thursday, but the Portuguese superstar’s exploits are only papering over the cracks and the result did little to aid the Red Devils in their pursuit of fourth spot.

They head into the weekend having played a pair of games more than both Arsenal and Tottenham, and with just three outings of their own left, the gap is simply too much to bridge at this late stage.

The mood at Brentford provides sharp contrast as they’re able to enjoy their remaining fixtures without pressure, while they could even land a top-half finish should they keep up their current form.

They’re a highly impressive W5-D1-L1 since the start of March as they even picked apart Chelsea 4-1 at Stamford Bridge, and there’s no doubt that the arrival of Christian Eriksen has handed the Bees fresh impetus.

Indeed, their only loss over this period came when the Danish playmaker was absent from the team, and the former Tottenham man shouldn’t find too much difficulty taking advantage of the shoddy defensive efforts being offered up by Man Utd at present.

Brentford Draw - Double Chance

Ralph Rangnick’s side have mustered just two clean sheets from 16 appearances in all competitions since the start of February, and given Brentford have bagged at least two goals in each of their recent five wins, it would be a surprise if Thomas Frank’s men were to draw a blank.

In fact, both sides were on the scoreboard when they met back in January, with Man Utd producing just two clean sheets in their last 10 appearances against bottom-half sides, as both teams scored on seven occasions.

Both Teams To Score

Both teams have also scored in 13 of Brentford’s 17 away games since the start of October in all competitions, including each of the last five.

Two of the exceptions over this period came against the irresistible forces of Man City and Liverpool, with the title-battling duo unsurprisingly holding the best defensive records in the division.

United have managed just two wins from their past 11 in all competitions, with one of those over Norwich, and even that game saw Ronaldo bail them out with a hat-trick as they conceded twice against the division’s lowest scorers.

Rangnick may have half a foot out the door, but until an inevitable summer rebuild gets underway, there appears little prosect of further clean sheets on the horizon.

PREDICTIONS:

BRENTFORD DRAW - DOUBLE CHANCE

BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
