Manchester City v West Ham Preview - Premier League Week 13

Following another impressive win in Europe, West Ham turn their attention back to the Premier League and the small matter of Manchester City at the Etihad on Saturday. The Hammers sit fourth in the table and the win will see them draw level on points with Guardiola's title contenders. Recent Form

Both these sides were part of a largely successful week in Europe for English sides, with six of the seven participating picking up three points.

Man City took revenge on PSG and came from behind to steal three points at home to the Parisiens, while West Ham booked their spot in the knockout stages of the Europa League with a game to spare.

That was a strong bounce back from the Irons having slipped to defeat against a tough Wolves outfit last time out, and the games don’t exactly get easier now with Man City and Chelsea in their next three outings.

That defeat to Wolves was their first on the road in 12 matches now across all competitions dating back to April, and they got back to winning ways on the road in Europe last night so they certainly won’t roll over easily here.

Man City have kept five clean sheets from their six home games this season, though with four of those matches against current bottom half sides, and the other against an Arsenal side that looked bereft of footballing ability at the time, we’d be surprised if they kept another here.

In fact, having gone on a run of eight successive home victories last year, they’ve since gone W6-D1-L4 at the Etihad, and when limiting those sides to either top half finishers last season or current top-half sides this year, that record goes to a measly W1-L4, so there’s certainly hope for the visitors here.

West Ham Or The Draw

The Hammers have lost five successive matches at the Etihad now going back to September 2015, though they’re a completely different animal now than they have been for at least four of those outings, and that’s highlighted by drawing two of their last three matches with the Citizens since the beginning of last season, including a penalty shootout win this year in the League Cup.

The visitors haven’t lost by more than a single goal in any game since January, and away from home they’ve not tasted defeat by more than that margin in 2021, with the last side to take a convincing home win against them being Frank Lampard’s Chelsea in December last year.

That leaves the double chance the most appealing prospect for this clash, even with Angelo Ogbonna due for a lengthy spell on the sidelines, with Craig Dawson and Kurt Zouma more than capable of putting in a performance.
