The European Fixtures keep coming thick and fast, and Man City have got off to the best possible start in this group, winning both their matches with relative comfort and they now sit three points clear at the top after just two games.

Pep Guardiola’s side have struggled for output on the domestic front, with only Wolves and Crystal Palace scoring fewer than them from the top 16 in the table, though six goals so far in Europe would suggest their issues aren’t too deep rooted.

While Ferran Torres has tasked with leading the line in victories over Marseille and Sheffield United, there’s a possibility that Gabriel Jesus will return to the matchday squad for this clash, though the Brazilian is unlikely to start from the off.

City have often struggled in games without a recognisable number nine, and even their startling 5-2 defeat to Leicester earlier in the season came under those circumstances.

However, since then they’ve won three of four unbeaten such matches as Torres looks an apt replacement without Sergio Aguero or Jesus available and we wouldn’t expect the lack of a number nine to have a detrimental effect at home to Olympiakos considering they’re now W15-D2-L3 in Europe and are unbeaten in nine matches at the Etihad dating back to September 2018.

The Greek side have made a strong start to their Super League title defence, winning four of five unbeaten matches and would go top of the table if they win their game in hand.

While that’s not necessarily too impressive or even daunting for this Man City side, the fact that they’ve only conceded three times in nine matches this season across all competitions shows they shouldn’t roll over easily here.

All three goals, however, have come on the road and while they are yet to concede in six matches at the Karaiskakis Stadium, we shouldn’t think they have the ability to keep the Citizens quiet for a full ninety in Manchester.

These two side have never met, though Olympiakos have played each of the other ‘Big Six’ sides this century, going a respectable W7-D3-L14 in that time, though on the road that record goes to just W2-L10, and even if one of those wins came against Arsenal earlier this year we’d still expect Man City to have too much for them.

However, Pep Guardiola’s side have grown a reputation for being clinical over the years, though haven’t quite lived up to that this season scoring three or more only four times in 10 matches, while four of their last six have seen them score just the once and against a side who will be well organised and are no strangers to the European stage, the value seems to lie in the narrow Man City win.
