Manchester City only just managed to scrape a win at the weekend, a strange sending off for Raul Jiminez who got two yellow cards in the space of 30 seconds for a late tackle and not moving away from the ball during a free-kick hindered his side’s chances.
Despite Wolves being down to ten men, Manchester City failed to score a goal from open play and had to rely on a penalty which was cooly taken by Raheem Sterling to give them the 1-0 lead.
Leeds played an exhilarating game against Chelsea at the weekend, three penalties were awarded throughout the game with the last of the spot-kicks being the deciding goal in the 94th minute, sealing a 3-2 win for the Blues.
The Whites have a tough run up until the new year with Arsenal, Liverpool and Aston Villa still to play before the start of 2022.
Marcelo Bielsa seems to have Pep Guardiola’s number, picking up four points from their two meetings last year. At Elland Road, the result was 1-1 and at the Etihad, they managed to lose 2-1 despite Leeds being a man down for the entire second half, Stuart Dallas finished the scoring with a calm finish to complete his brace.
Man City To Win To Nil
Manchester City have been in top form this year, winning their last six games and have only dropped points on four occasions all season. Unsurprisingly they are currently favourites to win the league with Liverpool not too far behind them.
The Citizens have also managed to keep nine clean sheets out of their 16 games already in the Premier League, and with this game being played at the Etihad, they should have no trouble here.
The Manchester side have a fantastic record of shut-outs at home, and out of their eight such games this season, six of them have resulted in clean sheets with five City having won-to-nil.
Leeds have picked up a few injuries recently, with key players set to be out for this tie, including star players Kalvin Phillips and Patrick Bamford while Pascal Struijk, Robin Koch and Liam Cooper are all big losses.
Phillips is by far the visitors’ most influential players, with their points per game a healthy 1.63 in the 40 games he’s started since the beginning of last season, though that drops to just 0.71 from the 14 that he hasn’t, and without him holding deep in midfield, City’s start players could run riot.
These injuries have really put a lot of pressure on younger and more inexperienced players to step up and take their place, because of this and Manchester City having one of the best home records this season the win to nil looks the most probable outcome.
