Manchester City’s last game was against Swindon Town on the 7th Jan, so they will have had a nice seven-day rest from their previous game and will be ready to take the attack to Chelsea.
The Citizens put out a strong team whilst also playing some of their younger talents to give them the experience they need for their future endeavours. Cole Palmer seems to be the standout performer whenever he graces the pitch at the moment, though the youngster will no doubt make way in the starting line-up here to established regulars.
Chelsea were victorious over one of their London rivals, Tottenham, to take them to the final of the Carabao Cup. They managed to hold them to nil in both of the two legs, which was only the second and third time that a team has been able to stop Antonio Conte’s Tottenham from scoring.
Chelsea may have only won one of their last five games in the Premier League, but while they haven’t lost any of these, four draws against teams that they should have beaten means that the Blues have missed out on a lot of points.
This has meant that Thomas Tuchel, who was 100/1 to be the next manager in the league to lose his job, has gone all the way down to 16/1 to be the next manager to leave his post.
Manchester City To Win
The last match these two played against each other ended 1-0 to Manchester City at Stamford Bridge. Despite only winning by one goal, the Citizens dominated the game, which is shown by the fact that Chelsea didn’t register a shot on target from five attempts, and only had four corners compared to City’s 13.
Although every football game is different and anything can happen over the course of 90 minutes, we don’t see why anything will be different this time around.
This is because Manchester City have been on an incredible run of form as of late, having won their last 11 league games in a row and only conceding seven goals, whilst scoring 33.
Chelsea have been underperforming recently, especially at home where they have drawn five out of their last six. Liverpool and arguably Manchester United were the only two teams who had real quality which they drew to.
Still, United haven’t been playing anywhere close to their potential, and lots of these games were against teams that they should have beaten like Brighton, Everton and Burnley.
Even with all this being said, Chelsea have won two of the last five games they have played at the Etihad, which shows that an upset could be on the cards. However, Chelsea haven’t been performing to their highest standards as of late, while City have the bit between their teeth.
