Man United v Spurs Preview - William Gallas

Former Tottenham defender William Gallas believes his old side can get a positive result against Manchester United at Old Trafford - and insists Antonio Conte will be unfazed by criticisms of his brand of football. Spurs are enjoying a positive season, sitting third in the Premier League, but there have been accusations that their style of play is too negative under the Italian tactician. They travel to Manchester to face fifth-placed United on Wednesday, and Gallas is confident of the North Londoners’ chances.

The Draw

Speaking exclusively to Genting, he said: “I think Tottenham will draw against Manchester United on Wednesday.

“We know Tottenham and how they play, they like to defend and they are very compact and they like to play on the counter attack.

“So for me it will be a draw, or maybe Tottenham can spring a surprise to win there.

“Even if Manchester United look better now, I think Spurs can come back to London with a good point.

“I don’t think Antonio Conte will care what people say about his style of football, he’s got so much experience. If people say the style of the team is boring, he won’t mind.

“If they play that way, it’s the best for that team, and they’re getting results and in the top four.

“Maybe he will change in the second half of the season, the style, to surprise teams. We have to wait [and see].”

Disagreement With Ferdinand Comment

Gallas also refuted former United defender Rio Ferdinand’s claim that Spurs striker Harry Kane would be ‘sick’ watching Erling Haaland’s success at Manchester City - after failing to force through a move to the Etihad Stadium.

“I don’t think Harry will be feeling sick watching Haaland score so many goals,” he said.

“Now Harry looks better and he’s accepted the situation, that he’s stayed at Tottenham.

“Harry was not well because he didn’t leave, and that took time to accept. He knew if he had the opportunity to go to Manchester City, he knew he was going to score a lot of goals because of how they play and win titles.

“He knew the ball would come into the box and he’d be there to score maybe one goal, two goals or a hat-trick, but he now has the challenge to try and score more for Tottenham, to try and score as many goals or even more than Haaland.

“For the rest of the season we will see two top goalscorers fighting to try to win the Golden Boot.

“I don’t think he’ll feel sick watching Haaland scoring so many.”
