Livingston v Rangers Preview - Scottish Premiership Week 15

It was a winning start in Europe for new manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst after watching his Rangers side beat Sparta Prague 2-0, a result that should be enough to see them through to the next round of the Europa League. Next up is a trip to Livingston on Sunday and the Dutchman will want to see his team consolidate their four point cushion at the top of the table. Recent Form

Rangers got off to a winning start under Giovanni van Bronckhorst as an Alfredo Morelos brace helped them to a comfortable victory over Sparta Prague, guaranteeing them a second-place finish in their Europa League group.

There was a clear improvement in the attitude and huger of the side, which will have been the most pleasing aspect for the new man in the dugout following an insipid performance in the League Cup semi-final defeat to Hibernian last weekend.

As expected, van Bronckhorst didn’t make any sweeping changes to the side, though did tweak the formation to a 4-2-3-1 with Joe Aribo playing as the number 10.

He’ll have been disappointed not to have registered on the scoresheet after a couple of highly presentable chances, but was a threat with his late runs into attacking positions, while Ryan Kent was a livewire as usual down the left flank.

Rangers may have been reinvigorated, but there’s no denying that they benefited from some very sloppy defending by Sparta Prague, with their second goal an absolute gift.

Livingston may not be so generous as they’re unbeaten in five games now, beating St. Johnstone and Ross County before stalemates with Dundee Utd, Celtic and St. Mirren.

David Martindale’s side have tightened up defensively of late, conceding just twice across those last three appearances, including a clean sheet in the encounter with free-scoring Celtic.

Under 2.5 Goals

Across all competitions, eight of Livingston’s past 11 matches have seen under 2.5 goals, while eight of these games also saw at least one side fail to score.

They do however hold a horrendous recent record with the Gers, losing 11 of 12 winless meetings since November 2018, as they failed to score in all but one of these games.

However, they haven’t been thumped too often, with seven of the last nine head-to-heads featuring fewer than three goals, so should at least put up a fight here.

Livingston +1.25 Asian Handicap

Rangers have only triumphed by more than a single goal in three of 20 away matches since last Christmas in all competitions.

With that in mind, an improving Livingston outfit will fancy their chances of upsetting van Bronckhorst league debut at the helm.

Similarly, the hosts have only lost by more than a single goal in one of 24 home games since November 2020.
