Leicester v Manchester United Preview - Premier League Week 5

Leicester and Manchester United bring the curtain down on the midweek Premier League action when they clash at the King Power Stadium tonight. Brendan Rodgers is feeling the pressure following three losses and a draw from their opening four games, a run of results that sees them sit at the foot of the table, while United seem to be turning their form around following consecutive wins. Recent Form

Back-to-back wins over Liverpool and Southampton have got the Erik ten Haag era going, but for Leicester and Brendan Rodgers, the outlook isn’t so positive. The Foxes are yet to record a victory this season, with their only point coming at home to Brentford on the opening day, as defensive frailties continue to plague the midlands club.

Indeed, Leicester have already shipped 10 goals in four games, while they’ve registered just three clean sheets across 24 league games this calendar year, as all three were picked up at the King Power. The sale of Wesley Fofana to Chelsea has hardly helped matters, as there appears little prospect of a home clean sheet here.

Man Utd may lack a truly prolific goalscorer, but they’ve shown enough in their last couple of games to suggest they should be able to carry a significant attacking threat this season. Bruno Fernandes in particular appears more effective without compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo on the pitch, though new recruit Antony will have to wait for his debut as his visa is sorted out.

Both Teams To Score And Over 2.5 Goals

The Red Devils have also tightened up the backline, with Harry Maguire dropped in favour of a partnership between Lisandro Martinez and Rafael Varane, while Tyrell Malacia appears an upgrade on Luke Shaw. However, a clean sheet at Southampton was somewhat fortuitous, and with that United’s first shutout this term, it’s still had to entirely trust them at the back.

The visitors also seem a little on the short side when considering they’ve still lost seven of their past eight road trips, during which time they’ve conceded four goals to each of Man City, Liverpool, Brighton and Brentford, as well as shipping three when visiting Arsenal.

Neither side are easy to trust at the back then, and with Leicester still possessing key attacking threats James Maddison and Jamie Vardy, both teams should be contributing to an entertaining affair. Despite their rocky form, Leicester are still scoring goals and in fact, both teams to score and over 2.5 goals has come off in 25 of Leicester’s 42 games since the start of last season (60%).
