Leeds v Chelsea Preview And Predictions - Premier League Week 33

Leeds continue their fight for Premier League survival when they welcome Chelsea to Elland Road on Wednesday night. The hosts have lost consecutive games, a run of results that sees then sit in the relegation spots, however level on points with Burnley and just one point adrift of Everton. Recent Form

It looked as though Chelsea were cruising to victory after a quickfire Romelu Lukaku double at home to Wolves on Saturday, though a brilliant Francisco Trincao goal and a last gasp Connor Coady header sent the away section into raptures and leaves Chelsea just one point above fourth places Arsenal.

The Blues early season form should prove enough to keep them in the top four, and a win here could be enough to secure that should Spurs fail to win the North London derby on Thursday.

Leeds had a opening half hour to forget at the Emirates on Sunday after an early Eddie Nketiah brace was compounded by a reckless Luke Ayling challenge to reduce the Yorkshiremen to 10. They held their own from then on though and actually pulled a goal back through Diego Llorente, though it wasn’t enough to stop them slipping into the relegation zone.

This is a massive game for both sides, and surprisingly with this being played at Elland Road, that almost gives Chelsea the upper hand based on results this season. Indeed, Leeds would be 13th in a table based exclusively on away results, though only Norwich and Watford have a worse home record than Jesse Marsch’s men this season.

Meanwhile, Chelsea would be out of the race for the top four based on their results at Stamford Bridge this season, though only Man City have picked up more points on the road at the time of writing, and we’d expect the visitors to put on a show here.

Chelsea To Win And Both Teams To Score

Ultimately, Chelsea have been poor since they returned from the international break at the beginning of April, winning just twice in their seven league games since then and getting knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid.

However, their away record against sides lower down the division like Leeds has been their bread and butter this season. They’ve won nine of 10 road trips to teams currently placed 10th or lower in the table, with their customary Goodison Park defeat the only exception there.

Meanwhile, Leeds have lost all 11 other matches with the current-top six in the table, though they have managed to score in six, with four of the exceptions coming against the runaway top two.

While we’d expect an away win, Chelsea have been very off colour in recent weeks and aren’t nearly as defensively solid as we’ve become accustomed to seeing under Thomas Tuchel, conceding 17 times across their last 10 outings in all competitions.

For that reason we’d expect Leeds to at least find the net, though it could be a similar outcome to what we experienced at the Emirates on Sunday, especially without the likes of Stuart Dallas, Patrick Bamford, Liam Cooper and Luke Ayling in the side.

PREDICTION:

CHELSEA TO WIN AND BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
