Recent Form
This will be somewhat of a special occasion for Berlin residents, even if it’s from the comfort of their own home. It’s not every day these local derby matches occur and in fact, only six Berlin derbies have taken place in the Bundesliga era (since 1963). With this set to be just the second clash between East and West Berlin clubs, it’s likely to be yet another fiery affair even without the fans.
Hertha have had somewhat of a masterstroke following the dismissal of previous manager Alexander Nouri, who oversaw the club dropping down to 14th in the table. They can even count themselves fortunate to be as high up as that after dramatic three and two-goal comebacks versus bottom-three outfits Dusseldorf and Bremen respectively in his final two matches.
However, Bruno Labbadia was appointed during April and has certainly been doing something right, with his new charges putting Hoffenheim to the sword 3-0 in their returning game from the Covid-19 break.

Over 2.5 Goals
Union Berlin on the other hand, didn’t have it quite as easy on their return. A clash against giants Bayern saw them dismissed 2-0 as they dropped down a place to 12th. Although they’ve had a decent break due to the current epidemic, they have now lost seven of their last 11 outings dating back to mid-December, but it should be noted that they did play seven of the top nine sides over that period.
Obviously, it’s difficult to judge them off their result against the current league leaders, but across all competitions, they’ve lost each of their last three matches now by two clear strikes.
They’re also a miserly W3-D2-L8 away in the Bundesliga this term, as those three wins came against Frankfurt (currently 13th), Bremen (17th) and Mainz (15th), while eight of the last 10 of those trips saw both sides get onto the scoreboard.
You’d think the Old Lady would feel encouraged by their opponents’ form on the road this term, though only Paderborn and Bremen have picked up fewer points at home than them this term.

Both Teams To Score
Indeed, two of their three wins have come against bottom-three outfits, while the last 10 outings at home have yielded just the solitary victory. One thing that has been consistent however is the entertainment for the neutral observer, with Hertha shipping an average of over two goals per game from 13 home games this term, as they’ve seen more than two goals in 10, while both sides have scored in seven of the last 12.
Furthermore, across all venues Hertha have seen as many as three goals in each of their last six outings, four or more in four of those, and as many as five or more in two. For that reason, we’re happy to get behind both the both teams to score and ‘Over’ goals markets, as it seems the ‘derby factor’ has shortened the price for goals and we don’t mind that given we fancy those two markets.
