Brighton v Liverpool

Another heavyweight clash sees an in from Brighton side host Liverpool, and while in years gone by we would have seen the visitors heavy favourites, it’s a different story this season.

Under Graham Potter, the Seagulls were impressive, though they often struggled in front of goal. That doesn’t seem to be an issue for them now under De Zerbi as they’ve netted at least twice in each of their last six outings in all competitions. They’ve gone W4-D1-L1 from that run, only losing to league leaders Arsenal and also beating Liverpool themselves 3-0.

Klopp’s reds have been underwhelming this season, and this looks like their best chance at silverware already. With the exception of last season though, the Merseyside club have a poor record in this competition under current management. Indeed, before last year’s run, the Reds had a W6-D4-L6 record in this competition, which drops to a W3-D1-L5 record against Premier League sides.

Brighton are unbeaten in four games now, while Liverpool have been poor on the road all season, going W3-D2-L7 domestically and the value has to be with the hosts again as underdogs.

BRIGHTON TO WIN

Stoke v Stevenage

The Potters come into this outing on a high after a 4-0 victory last weekend, and knowing what Stevenage did to Aston Villa in the last round, they certainly wont be taking them for granted.

Stevenage have won four of their last five unbeaten outings in their bid to secure promotion from League Two, and while they’d love to claim another scalp in this cup, they’ll be forgiven for having one eye on their league exploits.

With that said, the certainly have nothing to lose here going to the Bet365 and we can see them at least grabbing a goal. Stoke have kept just two clean sheets in their last nine outings now, while the visitors have scored an average of two goals per game across their last five, scoring in each.

BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE

Wrexham v Sheffield United

Wrexham are dying to get into the Football League, and they’re certainly going the right way about doing so this season. They play an exciting brand of football and look to play on the front foot, which has certainly reaped it’s rewards so far as they come into this on a 20 match unbeaten run, scoring three or more goals in over half of those games. They played out a thriller with Coventry in the last round, and they’ll be confident of putting on a show against another Championship side here.

Sheffield United are on their own promotion hunt to get back into the Premier League, and barring a tumultuous downturn in results they should have no problem holding onto their automatic place. They too are on an impressive run, winning eight of their last nine unbeaten outings, though they’ve been less gung-ho about their victories, only reaching three goals twice in that run.

With both sides focussing on their respective leagues, there’s no reason why both won’t want to put on a show having been selected for broadcast. Both sides will throw the kitchen sink at this game, and we could be in for another thriller, so expect goals.
