PSV v Arsenal

PSV lost further ground in their domestic title race as they suffered a 4-2 defeat at bottom-half side Groningen, leaving them with back-to-back losses after going down to Arsenal last week. However, the Gunners endured their own setback at the weekend as they looked tired as they drew with Southampton, so Mikel Arteta is expected to ring the changes and keep his players fresh.

That’s especially the case given Arsenal have already secured a top-two spot, sitting five points ahead of PSV as a stalemate here would be enough to guarantee first place. The Gunners have now won 13 of 15 matches this season, losing just the once, though the output has dried up a little as their last four matches have seen three 1-0 wins and a 1-1 draw.

Perhaps unsurprisingly under former striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, PSV are a high-scoring team, even if there was just a single strike when these two met last week. Across all competitions, 14 of their 20 games this season have seen at least three goals, while 10 saw a minimum of five goals over 90 minutes.

Four of PSV’s five defeats have come on the road this season, but of their last five home defeats stretching back just over 12 months, four ended 2-1 (Monaco, Ajax, AZ and Leicester), while the other was a 1-0 defeat to Rangers. PSV have scored 15 times across their past three on home turf alone, so will hope to at least register a goal this time around, though their defensive record would suggest that the Gunners can rack up another victory here.

Man Utd v Sheriff Tiraspol

Man Utd have conceded just once across their last four outings, a Jorginho penalty versus Chelsea, including shutouts against Newcastle and Tottenham, as well as Omonia Nicosia in this competition. They also registered a clean sheet over Sheriff themselves when the two sides met in September, with the Moldovan outfit since suffering back-to-back defeats in Europe to Real Sociedad. Each of those losses to the Spanish side or United finished either 2-0 or 3-0, and a similar outcome should be expected here.

Sheriff enter this fixture having just had their first domestic defeat of the season inflicted by Petrocub at the weekend, though we wouldn’t read too much into their results against fellow Moldovan outfits here. Still, they’ve only scored more than twice in one of their past eight Super Liga games, as they can’t boast frightening levels of output even domestically.

Man Utd have kept eight clean sheets from 12 home matches in Europe’s second-tier competition since the 2019/20 season, as it’s largely been the better sides at this level (AC Milan, LASK Linz, Real Sociedad and Roma) that have breached the Red Devils’ backline. Raphael Varane joins Anthony Martial on the treatment table, though Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire have returned to training to boost Erik ten Haag’s options, while we doubt the French World Cup winner would have been risked here in any case.
