Dundee v Rangers Preview And Predictions - Scottish Premiership Week 31

Dundee and Rangers bring the curtain down on the weekend's Scottish Premiership action when they clash on Sunday. With Celtic playing on Saturday, Rangers could find themselves six points adrift of the league leaders and nothing short of the win will keep their title hopes alive. Recent Form

Rangers may have lost 2-1 away to Crvena Zvezda midweek, with veteran goalkeeper Allan McGregor putting in another solid display between the sticks, though in truth it was a good result as a 3-0 win in the first leg had all but assured progress.

It was also only just a second defeat for the Gers under Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who is now W18-D6-L2 at the helm since arriving back in late November, with the other loss inflicted by Celtic at the start of February.

Dundee prop up the table and hardly appear likely to cause an upset. Their most recent outing was in fact a 3-0 defeat hosting Rangers themselves in the Scottish Cup last weekend. That leaves them with a W3-D4-L11 record since early December, as even two of those victories came over third-tier outfits Dumbarton and Peterhead.

Rangers have already seen off Dundee on three occasions this season, with the three victories yielding a combined 7-0 scoreline. The hosts did manage to score in two of their three clashes with Celtic, though did concede 13 times across those games.

Having shipped 20 goals in six clashes with the Old Firm duo together, the visitors shouldn’t be hard-pressed to carve out opportunities. Indeed, Dundee have conceded a league-high 51 goals from 30 games this season.

Rangers To Win To Nil

If there’s some hope for Dundee, then it must surely lie in the Gers relatively poor results on the road. Only Celtic have taken more points on their travels than Rangers, but van Bronckhorst’s men have, in addition to their midweek defeat to Crvena Zvezda, slipped up by winning just one of their past five league trips.

Aberdeen, Ross County and Dundee Utd all secured a point, while Celtic romped to victory. However, Rangers did at least win their last league game on the road as they edged out St. Johnstone 1-0 at McDiarmid Park, while of course their 3-0 cup win over Dundee themselves last weekend would suggest they’ve gotten over their away day blues.

With that in mind, a Rangers side that have recovered impressively from their Old Firm derby setback should take the spoils here. However, given Rangers have only won by more than a single goal in four of their 14 away league games this season, a repeat 3-0 scoreline from their cup encounter last weekend might be a touch too much to ask for.

Excluding Dundee’s results against the two teams directly above them in the table, 11 of their 15 defeats have seen them fail to score. Taking into consideration the one-sided head-to-head results between the two sides, that would appear the likely outcome once more.

PREDICTION:

RANGERS TO WIN TO NIL
