Chelsea v Norwich Preview And Predictions - Premier League Week Nine

Chelsea and Norwich kick-off a busy Saturday of Premier League action when they clash in the early game at Stamford Bridge. Thomas Tuchel's team sit top of the league table and come into the game off the back of a midweek thrashing of Malmo in the Champions League. Norwich hold up the foot of the table and have yet to register a win, a run that is expected to continue come the final whistle. Recent Form

Norwich seemed to have shored up their defence in recent weeks and have now kept tow clean sheets on the bounce, though they also failed to score in both of those outings and are still in search of their first win since their return to the top-flight.

The Canaries are the league’s lowest scorers, netting just twice so far, and they may struggle for output up against the best defence in the league.

Chelsea were in rampant form midweek claiming a 4-0 win over Malmo, with that coming off the back of their desperate defending in a 1-0 win over Brentford last weekend, a three points that might prove to be incredibly crucial come the end of the season.

We wouldn’t expect bottom of the league Norwich to put the blues under as much pressure as the Bees did, and it seems a matter of by how many the hosts will win by, rather than if they’ll take the three points.

The main issue that the hosts will have to contend with, though, is the fact that they have no recognised striker in their ranks, with Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner both suffering injuries in midweek, while they’ve parted ways with Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud who have both made their way to Italy.

That leaves Kai Havertz as the likely talisman this weekend, and he’s certainly impressed in that role before, and we’d expect a more fluid front three than usual from Thomas Tuchel.

Norwich don’t have the best record against the blues, failing to win any of the last 17 meetings going all the way back to 1994, with Chelsea winning eight of their last 10 unbeaten meetings with the Canaries at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea To Win And Under 2.5 Goals

Without a recognised striker though, it’s hard to see where the goals are really going to come from for the Blues, and there may be value in backing the unders on this occasion.

The arrival of Lukaku has seen an increase in match goals this year, though it may be more the Chelsea of last season that we get here.

While Chelsea have seen over 2.5 goals land in half of their eight games so far, they saw unders land in 24 of their 30 outings last term under Tuchel across all competitions and a similarly low 1-0 or 2-0 scoreline is very much on the cards here, especially with Chelsea winning any of the last seven head-to-heads by more than a single strike.

Mason Mount To Score Anytime

Mason Mount is the only player in this Chelsea squad to have netted a goal against the Canaries before, while the Englishman has netted five goals against promoted opposition in the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons, so we’ll back him to get his goals tally for the campaign up and running against the bottom of the league side on Saturday.

PREDICTION:

CHESEA TO WIN AND UNDER 2,5 GOALS

MASON MOUNT TO SCORE ANYTIME
