Bayern Munich v Villarreal

Not many would have predicted Bayern coming away with nothing from their first leg trip to Villarreal, but Arnaut Danjuma’s early strike was enough for the hosts to take a 1-0 victory, throwing this tie very much up in the air.

With that said, You only have to go back to the last 16 to find when Bayern were last in a spot of trouble as they were unable to take a lead back from Salzburg, but quickly removed any doubts with a 7-1 second leg victory at home.

That’s been the tale of the tape for Bayern Recently though who, across all competitions, have gone W2-D2-L2 away from home since the end of January, which is notably poor for a team of their calibre. They have no such issues at home though with a W16-D1-L2 record this season, with 15 of those 16 wins seeing over 2.5 goals land, and 11 seeing at least four strikes in the match, while they’ve also won all four such European outings and scored 20 goals in the process.

Unai Emery has an exceptional European record, though the majority of that comes at Europa League level, and it’s certainly not enough to back them to come up trumps yet again here. They’ve lost five of their last seven away outings, with those defeats coming to Sporting Gijon, Elche, Osasuna, Cadiz and Levante, none of whom are on Bayern’s level and a hefty home win is the most likely outcome here.

Real Madrid v Chelsea

It’s a mammoth task for the blues in their defence of the Champions League trophy as they head to the Bernabeu needing a two goal victory just to take this to extra-time. They couldn’t have had any better preparation though with a 6-0 away win against Southampton at the weekend just the confidence boost they needed after successive defeats following the international break.

A Benzema inspired Madrid are in complete control of this tie, though an early setback will unsettle the crowd. Los Blancos are in good form though having won eight of their last nine outings and will be confidence they can stifle the Blues on Tuesday night. They’ve had a lot of experience hosting English outfits, and since the turn of the century they have a strong W8-D3-L3 record when hosting such sides, with none of those defeats coming by more than a single strike, so history is very much on the side of the hosts here.

The visitors have to go out and attack here, and that will likely open the game up a lot. Having netted six at the weekend, with their front three managing five on the day, we’d be surprised if they drew a blank here, while the attacking talent that Real Madrid have on display could cause Chelsea some problems on the break, and with this blues defence leaking seven goals in their last three games, the both teams to score market looks the one worth getting behind.

BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
