Celtic v St Mirren Preview And Predictions - Scottish Premiership Week 29

Celtic will be looking to maintain their three-point advantage at the top of the Scottish Premiership table when they welcome St. Mirren on Wednesday night. The Hoops only managed a share of the points last time out when they were held to a goalless draw with Hibs, however they kept hold of their three-point advantage with Rangers only managing a draw with Motherwell. Celtic found themselves frustrated by a stubborn Hibernian outfit last time out, but the goalless stalemate was the first time they’d dropped points in 2022 and it’s unlikely they’ll fail to score here.

St. Mirren did in fact manage a goalless stalemate hosting Celtic when the two teams last met in December, but they had failed to keep the Hoops’ attack at bay across the previous nine encounters going back to the start of 2019.

In fact, Celtic scored at least twice in eight of those games, including 4-0 and 6-0 defeats in the last two of those before the most recent clash.

Celtic may have been denied last time out, but the draw hasn’t proved costly with Rangers unable to capitalize as they threw away a two-goal lead hosting Motherwell.

The Hoops have still won 18 of 21 unbeaten league games since the start of October, leading at both half time and full time on 16 occasions, while they scored twice at a minimum in 15 of these.

Celtic To Win To Nil

St Mirren may have lost 2-0 hosting Hearts last time out, but they shouldn’t be underestimated having won four of their previous six league games. However, scoring goals remains a problem and subsequently, they’re involved in a large number of low-scoring affairs, with 13 of their last 16 appearances featuring no more than two goals. Indeed, only the bottom two sides (St. Johnstone and Dundee) have scored fewer goals this term.

The visitors will undoubtedly seek to replicate Hibernian’s performance and rely upon a defensive masterclass to get something from this one, and having trailed at the break in just two of their past 15 games (W1-D12-L2), they may be able to succeed for a time.

However, since returning to the top flight, they hold a dismal W1-D2-L18 record in league clashes with the Old Firm duo.

They failed to score in 17 of these, so Celtic should be able to comfortably hold on to the lead when the breakthrough comes, while Ange Postecoglou’s side have won without conceding in nine of 13 home games this season.

PREDICTION:

CELTIC TO WIN TO NIL
