Celtic have opened up a six-point gap at the top of the table following their Old Firm derby triumph, a lead that appears seismic at this stage of the season with just six games to go. The Hoops are now unbeaten in 32 games domestically, winning on 28 occasions, so the outcome of a home clash with St. Johnstone appears inevitable.

The visitors do head into this fixture unbeaten in three matches, securing a draw away at Hibernian before narrow victories at home over Motherwell and Livingston. Still, they remain second from bottom in the table and are by far the lowest scorers in the division, and their prospects of finding the net here appear fairly slim.

Although Callum Davidson’s side did manage a consolation effort when going down 3-1 when the two teams last met, they did fail to score across the previous three head-to-heads, with two of those at Parkhead and the other at Hampden Park in the League Cup semi-finals. In fact, Celtic have kept clean sheets in 14 of 17 meetings since November 2017, including six of seven clashes at this venue.

Celtic To Win And Under 2.5 Goals

Celtic have conceded just two goals across their past six in all competitions, with one of those by Rangers as Aaron Ramsey handed them an early lead last weekend. On home turf alone, the Hoops are W14-D1-L1 since the start of October, registering 12 clean sheets over this period.

Celtic have also won 18 of 21 unbeaten home league games since the start of February 2021. That includes 14 clean sheets from 17 matches since April of that year, as well as win to nil outcomes in seven of eight appearances since the start of December – with five of them finishing either 1-0 or 2-0.

Although Celtic are more than capable of racking up big scorelines, St. Johnstone do possess the best defensive record amongst the bottom half of the table and so a fairly modest, if comfortable victory for the hosts should be expected.

Indeed, the visitors are W2-D3-L9 over 90 minutes on their travels in all competitions since late November, going down by 1-0 or 2-0 scorelines on seven occasions, including all three visits to either Celtic or Rangers.

PREDICTION:

CELTIC TO WIN AND UNDER 2.5 GOALS
