Celtic v Hearts Betting Tips – Scottish League Cup Round Two

Celtic and Hearts bring the curtain down on a weekend of Scottish League Cup action when they clash at Celtic Park on Sunday night. Both sides come into the game off the back of wins in the Scottish Premiership, however after missing out on a fifth consecutive final last season, the Hoops will want to book their third-round spot with victory over Hearts. Tipsters Form Labs guide you to where the value might lie with their betting tips for the game.

Celtic’s pre-season was beset with problems as poor results and a lack of new signings threatened to undermine their campaign before it had even begun.

An opening day defeat to Hearts while Old Firm rivals Rangers were thumping Livingston signalled that they could be in for another rough season, but fast forward a few games and the mood is very different.

Although Odsonne Edouard’s future remains up in the air with the striker only having a year left on his deal, he’s seemingly been displaced by arrival Kyogo Furuhashi in any case.

The Japan international has hit the ground running with four goals in Celtic’s past three fixtures, including a stunning hat-trick as Celtic put Dundee to the sword 6-0 last weekend.

The 26-year-old also arrives without the need for a pre-season having been in fine fettle for previous side Vissel Kobe. He now has 11 goals in nine appearances for the two clubs combined since June, finding the net at least once in seven of those games as one of the exceptions saw him come on late as a substitute.

Furuhashi isn’t the only one to find his shooting boots and the Hoops have now scored 13 times as they’ve beaten Czech side Jablonec twice in Europe and that 6-0 win over Dundee domestically. 19-year-old winger Liel Abada has been particularly dangerous as well, and should return for this clash having missed the midweek win over Jablonec last time out with a minor injury.

Over 2.5 Goals

Encouragingly, Celtic have even recorded back-to-back clean sheets in the last two outings, with another new arrival giving cause for optimism as Swedish international Carl Starfelt has slotted in at centre-back alongside Stephen Welsh.

The partnership is still in early development, but following the horror show at the back last term, there at least appears a solid foundation to build upon now.

Hearts will offer a tough test however as they’ve since backed up that opening day win over Ange Postecoglou’s men with another 2-1 victory, this time away at St. Mirren.

After guiding Hearts to the Championship title last term, Robbie Neilson will be pleased at the seamless transition back in the top flight and will be aiming for a top-half finish this time around.

Including pre-season results, Hearts have now won nine of 10 fixtures since late April and scored at least twice in eight of these.

With both teams looking sharp in attack, there’s certainly a strong prospect of goals in this meeting as well.

In fact, this has been a high-scoring fixture in recent years with 13 of 15 clashes since 2017/18 featuring at least three goals over 90 minutes alone, and eight of them seeing a minimum of four.
