Carlisle are looking to make it to the fourth round of the FA Cup for only the second time this century.
Aaron Hayden’s first half strike downed fellow League Two outfit Forest Green in their last round replay, and they forced another when they travelled to the Welsh capital a week and a half ago as they played out a 2-2 stalemate, though they did throw away a two goal lead in that one.
Despite their impressive cup run, the Cumbrians are struggling on the league front as they sit just one point outside relegation and with the second worst goal difference in the division, though their visitors for this one have also looked shaky on their return to the Championship.
Indeed, having parted ways with manager Neil Warnock back in November Cardiff sit 12th with just one victory in eight across all competitions, though they have drawn five of these.
Although the Bluebirds have been unconvincing of late, they still only sit four points off the playoffs and they’ve showed they’re capable of an upset having beaten both Forest and Wednesday away, as well as grabbing points against Leeds and Millwall recently, though their 6-1 defeat at the hands of QPR has called their consistency into question, and anything but victory here would be a huge blow to confidence.
Total Goals Over 1.5
In fact, defeat here for either side would be detrimental to mentality and could have a serious impact on their respective league ambitions, so we wouldn’t be surprised to see both sides go hell for leather to get the win, and with neither side keeping games tight of late, the ‘Overs’ appeals.
The hosts have seen at least three goals in each of their last four games, while against their division’s current top six, they’ve conceded 24 goals in nine fixtures and at least two in eight of these as well as a brace in the reverse fixture with Cardiff.
However, the hosts have only scored in two of their last seven games here so they’re not worth backing to get on the scoresheet on current form and the visitors to bag at least a brace again looks to be the way to go.
