Recent Form

After only losing four of their opening 23 games in the top flight, Brighton have now lost four out of as many matches. A 2-0 loss to Manchester United is to be expected, but going on to lose 3-0 against Burnley and 2-1 versus Newcastle isn’t good enough for a team trying to climb their way up the Premier League.

Despite drawing the last game against Liverpool (2-2 at Anfield), we think Liverpool’s good run of form will only accentuate Brighton’s bad one.

Liverpool only just managed to proceed to the next round of the Champions League following their narrow 1-0 loss at Anfield against Inter, and were unbeaten in their last 31 home games in all competitions.

A few questionable decisions meant that game was more open than it should have been. Alexis Sanchez was given a yellow card for a studs-up challenge on Thiago just on the verge of half time, before eventually being handed a second yellow just after the hour mark, but if that tackle was in the Premier League, we believe it would have been a straight red as we have seen many times before.

Liverpool To Win To Nil

Liverpool come out on top in the head-to-head aspect of this matchup with a record of W6-D2-L1. Interestingly, Brighton have drawn two and won one of the last three matches, despite losing the previous six in a row.

A goals bet may yield some value in this fixture with four out of the last nine games between the two sides resulting in over 3.5 goals and this has also come off in 62% of Liverpool’s away games this year.

However, this season, the Seagulls have been averaging the second least amount of match goals in the Premier League with 2.15, as only 11% of their games have finished with over 3.5 goals.

As we spoke about earlier, the Reds have been on a quality run of form, winning their last seven league games in a row and holding a goal difference of +17 over the course of these.

Every team knows the task at hand whenever they go to Anfield and despite losing midweek against Inter, they have only conceded two goals over the last nine Premier League home games and look as sure at the back as they have been for a while.

Brighton won’t be in the highest of spirits entering this game due to them losing the last four in a row and are in desperate need of a bounce back.

They have only scored one goal throughout these losses (2-1 against Newcastle) and it was from a set-piece, which could mean that their lack of creativity in open play during these poor games could carry on here.

PREDICTION:

LIVERPOOL TO WIN TO NIL
