Brentford v Newcastle Betting Tips – EFL Cup Quarterfinal

After narrowly missing out on promotion to the Premier League, Brentford have another opportunity to prove they belong in the top-flight when they welcome Newcastle in the quarterfinals of the EFL Cup on Tuesday night. The hosts have already accounted for Fulham and Southampton and a third Premier League scalp is certainly within their grasp. Recent Form

Brentford are one of just two sides outside the Premier League remaining in the League Cup, and a home game against Newcastle is certainly one of the more favourable draws they could have received, and their form should fill them with confidence too.

The Bees are currently on a 13-match unbeaten run, winning five of their last eight matches and much of that is owed to talisman Ivan Toney.

The Englishman is currently the Championship’s top scorer and has netted 16 times in his last 18 matches for his club while only his Brentford teammate Marcus Forss and Preston’s Scott Sinclair have a better shot conversion rate in the league than Toney, and he could cause the Newcastle backline a whole world of trouble on Tuesday afternoon.

Brentford And Newcastle To Draw

While they’ve been impressive this season, currently sitting fourth in the Championship, they’re yet to really claim a scalp having failed to win any of their five matches against the current top seven in the table, drawing all four with sides either in automatic promotion places or play-offs, which leaves us cautious over their chances here, though their results in previous rounds suggest they can more than compete, having overcome all of Southampton, West Brom and Fulham en route to the quarters.

Newcastle haven’t had quite as challenging a run as the Bees, beating Blackburn and Morecambe before scraping through on penalties over Newport, so this is by no means a forgone conclusion.

We’d expect Steve Bruce to field a strong side as although the fixture list has been condensed so far this season and they have game coming thick and fast at the moment, the lack of European football has allowed for greater rest for the Magpies and at this stage of the competition it’s borderline criminal to throw out a weakened team.

Under 2.5 Goals

The Northern side have struggled for consistency all season, only managing back-to-back wins once, and back-to-back defeats once as well, as they sit a very balanced W5-D3-L5 in the league this season.

Their away form reads W2-D2-L2 too, though what’s notable is a lack of goals on the road with five of this six matches seeing ‘Under 2.5 Goals’ land, iwththe exception when Leeds ran riot at Elland Road and we wouldn’t expect a similar showing here.

Notably, all four matches against the league’s top six for Brentford have seen ‘Draw and Under 2.5 Goals’ come in and a similarly close contest wouldn’t be a shock here, so that outcome is worth a flutter.
