A Wout Faes own goal brace saw Liverpool come from behind against Leicester last week, though they were the inferior side for the majority of the contest and performances like that don’t bode too well if they’re bidding for a top four spot.

Brentford saw off West Ham with relative ease in their latest fixture. Goals from Ivan Toney and Josh Dasilva gave the Bees a 2-0 victory and they’ll be full of confidence heading into this one. Consistency has been an issue for Thomas Frank’s men though, who are yet to register back-to-back victories this season.

Despite four successive victories now for Jurgen Klopp’s chargers, they don’t seem the feared package that they have been in seasons gone by. They haven’t managed a clean sheet in five outings now, while only in a 0-0 draw away at Goodison have they managed to keep their opposition at bay in seven away matches this season.

Brentford +1 Handicap

Only to league leaders Arsenal have Brentford lost at home this season, while Liverpool have been relatively poor on the road, registering just two wins to date as they would sit 12th in a table based solely on away results, so we’re inclined to get the hosts onside in some capacity.

The issue for the Bees though remains upfront. Ivan Toney was stretchered off in the dying embers of their clash with West Ham last week, though the news isn’t all bad and while he may not be fit enough for a starting berth, the English striker may feature from the bench. Liverpool’s high line will play into the hands of Bryan Mbuemo and Yoane Wissa who will look to get in behind and cause some issues, and we think they’ll do just that, and we’d expect them to get on the scoresheet even if Toney is absent.

Liverpool have won just two of their last eight opening calendar year fixtures, while Brentford have lost just one of their five matches this year against the ‘Big Six’, drawing with both Chelsea and Spurs here and beating Man United 4-0. While we wouldn’t expect them to dispatch Liverpool in the same manor as they did with the Red Devils, they look worth getting behind on the handicap.
