A win on Monday night over Sivasspor saw Antalyaspor jump a place above Genclerbirligi in the table to 11th and build a gap of five points to the drop zone. Veysel Sari scored the only goal of the game, leaving Antalyaspor with a highly respectable three wins from five unbeaten outings now.
Besiktas may have had a wobbly start to their 2019/20 campaign under Abdullah Avci (W1-D2-L3) that saw them down in the drop zone, but a miraculous seven wins from eight unbeaten matches following that saw them climb up the table to second.
However, they then proceeded to go on a run of eight defeats from 11 matches between mid-December and late January in all competitions, including a 4-0 hammering in England against Wolves in the Europa League and a cup exit to second-tier side BB Erzurumspor, which spent the end for Avci’s time at the helm.

Since the arrival of new manager Sergen Yalcin things have certainly been more promising. He’s W4-D2-L1 from seven outings so far, with that sole defeat coming at local rivals and second-placed Istanbul Basaksehir.
In fact, they’ve faced five teams from the top half of the table under new management, while those two stalemates came against league leaders Trabzonspor and third-placed Galatasaray, so and so the home fans have good reason to expect a win this weekend.
Antalyaspor also had to recruit a new manager in January after a 5-0 hammering was given to them by Galatasaray in their last outing of 2019.
They’ve since won four of eight unbeaten outings under Tamer Tuna, though they’re yet to face a top six side on the road, which didn’t exactly work out well for them under previous management – losing three of four outings earlier in the campaign.

Furthermore, the nine meetings between these two teams since 2015/16 have seen Besiktas take the bragging rights in seven of them, with an aggregate scoreline of 23-8 proving the dominance that they’ve enjoyed.
Interestingly though, four of those matches saw a maximum of one goal separate the sides, while that has also been the case in all but one of Antalyaspor’s last 10 outings across all competitions.
Moreover, half the visitors’ last eight defeats dating back to October have seen them lose by exactly one goal, while three of the four victories the hosts have had under Yalcin have finished exactly 2-1 and that could well be the way to go in this one too.
