Bayern Munich only managed a 1-0 victory over 17th place Arminia last weekend, though the stats were heavily in Munich’s favour with 76% possession and 22 shots with eight on target, and their opponents failed to register a single shot on target through the course of 90 minutes.
As they look ahead to Dortmund this weekend, they will need more of a cutting edge if they want to remain at the top of the Bundesliga.
After going 1-0 down in the 2nd minute against Wolfsburg, Dortmund came back in style to score three unanswered goals. Donyell Malen was on the score sheet and has certainly picked up the slack whilst the phenom Erling Haaland was out with a hip-flexor issue. Haaland did manage to make an appearance and unsurprisingly scored when only being on the pitch for seven minutes.
The Head-to-Head in the Bundesliga falls heavily in Bayern’s favour, having won eight out of the last ten games and some with heavy margins including a 6-0 and a 5-0 win.
In these games, Bayern have scored 33 goals whilst Borussia Dortmund only managed to score ten, bringing the average match goals to 4.3.
The last time that Dortmund managed to beat their Der Klassiker rivals was back in 2018 where they just managed to scrape a 3-2 win.
Over 3.5 Goals
Dortmund have the opportunity to leapfrog their rivals here as they sit just behind them in the table, and that’s no surprise considering they’ve scored 21% of all Bundesliga goals this year between them.
It’s hard to see either side managing a clean sheet, with just four between them this season despite their unrivalled dominance, and it’s hard to see this being a low scoring affair.
There’s very little chance of an unders bet here with the array of attacking talent on display for either side, while in the head-to-heads, there has only been two occasions in the last ten games where the game has finished with less than 3.5 (1-0 Bayern, 1-0 Dortmund).
A combined 58% of their matches this year have seen at least four goals, and while each of Bayern’s last three have seen unders land, it’s rare to see them go too long without a high scoring clash, and this certainly looks like the game for the net to be bulging once again.
