Atalanta v PSG Preview And Betting Tips - Champions League Quarterfinal

As we head into the business end of the 2019/20 Champions League the format will be slightly different this year as to previous seasons due to Covid. Rather bizarrely there will only be one fixture instead of the usual two legs in the build up to the final in order to get the competition finished before the start of the new campaign, and to make the affairs even, the rest of the tournament will be played out in Lisbon, Portugal. Expert tipsters guide you to where the value might lie with their betting preview and tips for the quarterfinal clash between Atalanta and PSG.

Recent Form

It has been a somewhat interesting road for Atalanta to get to a first ever quarter-final in Europe’s elite competition.

They were defeated in each of their opening three group games against Dinamo Zagreb, Shakhtar Donetsk and Man City, though a resurgence back in November against Man City when securing a draw saw them go on to win both their final group games and scrape through to the knockouts.

They proved why they deserved to reach this stage in the last 16 when downing Valencia 8-4 on aggregate and they’ll certainly take the game to this PSG outfit.

Thomas Tuchel’s men have had a much straighter route to the quarter-finals, going W5-D1 against all of Real Madrid, Club Brugge and Galatasaray, before his former club Dortmund took them to the wire in the last round.

That marks an impressive campaign for the Parisians so far this term as they’ve also picked up a clean sweep of domestic trophies (the Coupe de France, Coupe de la Ligue, Trophee des Champions and Ligue 1 title) for just the fourth time in their history, and now only the Champions League stops them from having the perfect season.

It’s this competition that has evaded them and this is the one the Qatar Sports Investments wanted the most when taking over in 2011.

PSG To Beat Atalanta

It could be well on the way given that they’ve gone a spectacular W39-D3-L4 from their 46 games in all tournaments when including their penalties victory over Lyon in Coupe de la Ligue, though if we just take the most competitive teams they faced in that time – Marseille, Lille, Rennes, Real Madrid and Dortmund – half their defeats came from their nine matches as they went W6-D1-L2.

Meanwhile, the Italian side are a much more mediocre W3-D4-L3 against all of Lazio, Juventus, Inter, Man City and Valencia.

Both Teams To Score

Both sides finished as clear top scorers in their respective leagues, with the French outfit averaging 2.78 goals per game and Atalanta notching up 98 goals from their 38 games (2.58 gpg).

Only four times this term have Gian Piero Gasperini’s men failed to score across all competitions, while PSG have only twice fired a blank and so it’s clear we should be in for a goal frenzy.

Interestingly, both teams are likely to be without their top scorers (Kylian Mbappe and Josip Ilicic), though with the attacking talents that both sides still posses we hardly think that’ll take away from the spectacle.

PSG To Beat Atalanta At 5/4

Both Teams To Score (Yes) At 4/9
