Recent Form
This is the most significant Milan derby in years as these two are the frontrunners in Serie A at the top of the table, separated by just the single point, as they seek to overturn Juventus’ decade of dominance.
Inter have capitalized on recent defeats for Milan to rise to the top of the pile, losing just once in 18 league appearances, and are deserving favourites despite a recent loss to Juventus in the Coppa Italia earlier this month.
Inter have dominated the head-to-heads in recent years with five wins from six meetings since 2018/19.
However, the spoils have been shared this season as Milan triumphed 2-1 in the reverse fixture, while the Nerazzurri won by the same scoreline more recently in the Coppa Italia at the end of January.
Milan are of course a different prospect this season, even if they do need to pick themselves up after some disappointing results of late.
The Rossoneri have only won twice in six appearances across all competitions, though we wouldn’t be unduly concerned with their 2-2 draw with Crvena Zvezda midweek.
The Serbian outfit finished the game with 10 men but still found a late equalizer, though Italian teams have often failed to take the Europa League seriously.
Moreover, the likes of Simon Kjaer, Davide Calabria, Sandro Tonali, Frank Kessie, Hakan Calhanoglu, Alexis Saelemaekers and Zlatan Ibrahimovic should all return to the starting line-up here.
Ismael Bennacer won’t feature having been forced off just before half-time with a knock, joining Daniele Bonera and Brahim Diaz on the sidelines.
However, Tonali is an excellent replacement for Bennacer and Antonio Conte doesn’t have much in the way of injury concerns either, with Stefano Sensi the only absentee for Inter.
Inter To Beat AC Milan
The combination of Milan’s recent domestic defeats to Atalanta, Inter and Spezia, as well as Inter’s growing momentum and success in the head-to-heads certainly encourage us to get behind the designated visitors here.
Inter are W12-D2-L1 in the league since late November, including three wins from four unbeaten clashes with the breakaway top seven in the table, while their defeat in the reverse fixture back in October was the only loss in seven such encounters this season.
Moreover, Milan have lost both clashes with the same bracket of opposition in 2021 so far, even excluding the recent cup loss to Inter, and a return to Champions League football remains the main priority ahead of challenging for the Scudetto this term.
Inter To Win 2-1
They’ve failed to keep a clean sheet in all six league meetings with the top seven this season, conceding at least twice in four of the last five, as well as three times in three of those games.
Both teams scored in five of the six matches in total this term, while that bet has landed in four of five meetings with Inter in all competitions since 2019.
Inter are unlikely to net three times. They’ve done so in just one of their seven clashes with the top seven in league action, though both teams still scored in five of these. That leaves a repeat 2-1 scoreline of interest, which is worth a little punt here.
0.5pts: Inter 2-1 Correct Score At 8/1
