Sheffield Students Hit Jackpot For Charity

Amateur sleuths were called on to solve a murder mystery in a fun charity event at a Sheffield casino which raised more than £1,600.

Final year events management students from Sheffield Hallam University organised the ‘Casino Killer’ evening at the Genting Club as part of their course and hit the jackpot on behalf of local charity Cavendish Cancer Care.

More than 80 guests enjoyed the venue’s hospitality and used their skills to follow the clues, interrogate the suspects – who were played by drama students – and solve the whodunit.

Ashleigh Bell, PR and marketing manager at Genting Club Sheffield, said: “We were happy to host the event and give our support for such a great cause. It was different and a lot of fun. The students are to be congratulated for their hard work and attention to detail to make it such a success.

“Judging by this, they will certainly do well in careers in events management.”

A fundraising prize draw added to the proceeds for Cavendish Cancer Care which helps people living with cancer in South Yorkshire, North Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. The Sheffield charity provides emotional support through counselling and complementary therapies to the patient, their carer and their children. Its services are provided free of charge and it relies on the donations from supporters and help from volunteers to continue its work.
