Manchester casino gets ready to welcome Chinese New Year
A Manchester casino with strong links to the Chinese community will welcome the Chinese New Year in traditional style over two nights.
The Genting Club Manchester in Portland Street will host a special buffet of authentic Oriental food on Sunday 22 February and Monday 23 February and enjoy the colour and spectacle of a Lion Dance on the Monday night.
The celebrations to welcome the Year of the Sheep, also known as the Year of the Goat or Ram, are expected to attract around 1200 guests for the most important festival in the Chinese calendar.
Marketing Advocate Mark Mallon said: “Our Chinese New Year evenings are a real highlight which many customers look forward to. It is a big social occasion.
“We have a large Chinese clientele and always organise activities for this special time. On the Monday night we are also holding a prize draw and distributing ‘lucky money’ red envelopes.”
Long established Chinatown restaurants Kwok Man and Pearl City are providing the food for Sunday and Monday evenings respectively.
The Chinese calendar runs on a 12-year cycle with each year named after a different animal in the Chinese zodiac. People are said to share the personality traits with the zodiac animal of the year they were born.
