Manchester United v Brentford Preview - Premier League

Manchester United will hope to put their turgid performance against Newcastle behind them as they take on a Brenford side who are chasing Europe themselves.

The upcoming game between the Red Devils and the Bees will take place at Old Trafford on Wednesday 5th April, with kick-off being at 8pm. Both sides have a lot at stake, but only one can claim the three points.

United To Secure Top 4?

Manchester United lifted the Carabao Cup just five weeks ago yet their league form has taken a nosedive in recent weeks. Erik Ten Hag’s men were humbled 7-0 at Anfield in March and failed to bounce back in a 0-0 draw at Southampton the week after. Influential midfielder Casemiro was sent-off in the latter game, and the absence of both him and Christian Eriksen proved costly in the game against Newcastle last Sunday.

The Red Devils are currently on 50 points, meaning that Champions League qualification is still very much in contention. Ten Hag, however, will need to remedy his side’s slumping form rather quickly and fix the midfield issues that have blighted the Red Devils in recent weeks.

Donny Van Der Beek and Alejandro Garnacho are also sidelined, however Marcus Rashford is back to full-fitness after missing the recent international break

Brentford Eyeing United Double

A pivotal game in both clubs’ seasons occurred on 13 August 2022, when Brenford demolished United 4-0 and sent the Red Devils to the bottom of the table.

Four first-half goals put the exclamation point on an utterly miserable day for the traveling United support. Brenford were understandably jubilant upon the final whistle and the Bees have only improved since then, with target-man Ivan Toney being one of the league’s top scorers this season.

Thomas Frank’s men could achieve a league double over Manchester United for the first time ever and consolidate their own hopes for a European finish. The Bees could go above Brighton should they win on Wednesday and Brenford could be on-course for their best-ever season in English football. The future looks bright for those in West London, and Man United’s stuttering form will fill the Bees with confidence.

Keane Lewis-Potter, Kristoffer Ajer, Shandon Baptiste, and Vitaly Janelt remain sidelined for Brenford, though the Bees have still managed to lose just one of their last six games.

Interestingly, the two clubs have never drawn in their Premier League meetings. Of the three times Manchester United and Brentford have met in the division, United have won two whilst Brenford’s sole victory came in the 4-0 rout back in August.
